I want to change my apple ID name.  Will this cause a lot of problems that will need to be fixed for other accounts?

You can change it, but any purchases you made stay tied to the Apple ID you used to buy them, so you'd either have to use the old one to update them or buy everything again.

As long as you log into your current Apple ID you us on appleid.apple.com and change the email address, your account history will stay with you.  you may need to sign out of your devices and computers and sign back in with the updated Apple ID for your devices to realize that it has been changed.

If you end up creating a new Apple ID instead of just chaing your current one, then all of your past purchases and history will not be carried over to the new account and there is no way to merge them.

THis article will help you change your email and keep the same account history: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5621

    I hope this helps.

So to be clear, if you rename the Apple ID itself, as Jay-Ray suggests, then you keep your purchases.  It is the same Apple ID just renamed.  That is what is recommended when an email goes out of date so you don't have multiple Apple IDs with possibly purchases on each.

If instead, you create a new Apple ID with your new email, then it can get messy real fast.
