Q: Changing the background wallpaper of my guest user account?

How do I permanently change the background wallpaper of my guest user account? It seems to change back to a generic image every time I log out of the account.

Generally settings are not held in the Guest account, so if you change something in there, all the settings disappear when you log out. Or if any guest changes something, those do not stick. It is a temporary account. Some disable this, since it could pose a security risk.

There may be a command line in Terminal an experienced user could manipulate into keeping a preferred screen background in place, instead of the default one.

You can use parental controls to change some items or limit online access from a Guest account. Depending on what OS X version you use, the details on what one can do will change. A basic instruction on how to create a Guest account in OS X 10.6 is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ph6419 in later OS X versions, iCloud and other items come into play. However in older OS X such as Leopard 10.5 that can run in both PPC and Intel based Mac, the settings are a bit less evolved.

As an alternative, you could set up a second or third account and give it significantly reduced access, in most every way. But then be sure to set up the computer so on start up, it asks for a password to continue from the login screen; with no automatic login set.

    Not sure if this helps.

    Good luck & happy computing!
