Q: Downloading meditations from iTunes to my iPod touch

I recently downloaded several meditations from the Chopra Center on my MacBook into itunes.  There is an icon before each meditations that looks like this ((O)) and they will not download to my ipod.  I have them in a separate folder but after several attempts they still will not download to my itouch.  They play just fine on my laptop, but I really wanted them on my itouch.  First question is what does that icon mean?   Second question is - is there secret that I am missing on how to download them to my itouch?

I have had such sucess using this support community so I appreciate any feedback from the smart people who use this community.  Thank you in advance for working on this with me.

What if you import them directly into your iTunes library and not use a folder?

What is the detailed  format of the media?

Actually I did import them directly into my iTunes and then created a folder to put them in so they would be in a category for my itunes library and ipod.

The format is:   Kind:  Mpeg Audio Stream and Size:  Stream

I hope that is what you meant by format of the media?

    Thank you.

    See:

iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod

iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos

It sounds like they are videos. You may have to use a third-part converter to convert them into a compatible format. I use HandBreak, it is free and has presets for iPod compatibility.

Also you did not provide the detailed format. There are many flavors of   Mpeg Audio Stream and Size:  Stream

The 3G iPod is compatible with these formats:

    • H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

You haven't downloaded them at all, they are being streamed.

In other words, when you play them in your iTunes, the audio is being sent to your computer as you hear it (possibly with a bit of buffering). When something is downloaded, the complete file is sent to, and stored on, your computer and is then played by your computer. Look at this screenshot...

    stream.png

Two of these lines have the (())  icon you refer to, and the one I've highlighted and inspected states Kind is "Internet Audio Stream" and the Size is "Stream".

I can assure you, it's not downloaded. It's being played online and you are listening to the audio online.

Thank you so much.  You are a bit over my head but I do get the general concept.

Thank you so much.... this I can understand and comprehend and now I know it is not downloaded and now I know where to look to find the icon I was looking at.

You are good at this an appreciated!

If this is Deepak Chopra Radio, then a quick look at the site does reveal a download facility. In other words, you can download episodes.

On their page where you chose the iTunes link, choose instead an episode and look for the download icon. This will download an MP3 file, which you can then add to your iTunes Library and put on your iPod.

    -------------------

Alternatively, look in the iTunes Store, under the Podcasts section and search for the Chopra Center. (Make sure you look for Podcasts. They are free!) I found two results, one of which had a new episode on 7th Feb 2014. If you subscribe to the Podcast (still for free), any new episodes will be automatically downloaded into your iTunes as they become available. You can also download older episodes in the series simply by selecting them.

Subscribing to the Podcasts is the easiest way to get the programmes onto your computer. They will appear in the Podcasts section of your iTunes Library. However, there are a couple of things I need to mention.

    1. Apple, in their wisdom, now have a habit (not always observed) of listing all available episodes of a Podcast in such a way that you think they have been downloaded to your computer, when in fact, they have not. In the screenshot below, notice the cloud icon (click on the "cloud" to download that episode): Podcast07.png
    2. If you haven't already done so, you will need to turn on the Sync Podcasts feature, which will then automatically add Podcasts to your iPod. You do this when the iPod is connected to iTunes; look on the Device/Podcasts pane for the options.
