Q: Retrieving files from Powerbook G4 with broken screen

I have a Powerbook G4 laptop which has a broken screen. I was curious as to what my options are as far as retrieving files from that old computer. Only the screen is broken. I now have a newer Macbook. Would it be easier to transer them computer to computer? Or should i hookup to a tv screen and transfer them that way? What cords or cables do I need? All suggestions welcome, thank you

Hi,

Even though a FireWire icon cannot be seen on the PowerBook G4 screen in this case, (with access to another appropriate Mac) you may want to try FireWire target disk mode to begin with:

Otherwise, it would be possible to open the PowerBook G4 and remove the hard drive (ifixit.com guides may be of help). A special USB adapter (for example, http://www.newertech.com/products/usb3_universaldriveadap.php) can be used to connect the now external hard drive to another Mac.
