Q: iPhone 5s 'This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably...' help?

What is happening here?

 

I keep getting this stupid message even when no charger is plugged in!

 

I'm using the official charger that came with the iphone 5s box. I have other lightning connectors and thought maybe switching them would fix it but it hasn't.

 

Is there something wrong with my 5s? Do I need to clean the port on the bottom of the phone? I've only had the 5s for about a week. I am using official apple chargers.

 

This started happening after my batter drained and I put the phone on charge. Is it a software bug?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

 

P.s. The message ONLY appears when it is not on charge. Which is studpily weird.

    SAME HERE! OTA Upgrade from 7.0.4 to 7.0.6 -> ORIGINAL Kabel no longer certified. Freaks me out!

     

    I can't even recover that **** thing because it does not connect at all. Not even DFU Mode works because it does not recognize the connection.

     

    I need a solution for that NOW! because I am running out of battery and I need that **** thing today!

    Went to apple store today , test their charger on the spot and it works fine , paid 25£ for updating my 5s. welp.

    Ironically I have removed the otterbox from my phone and the message went away. 2 days have went by with no issue. This is so strange.

    I talked to apple support which was kinda useless like I expected it to be. As expected, they did not know of any problem regarding 7.0.6 and lightning not working.

     

    I tried charging in my car with the old connector to lightning adapter (oem apple) and it charged. Took the adapter and used the cable from my old ipad. Also works.

     

    I did a complete reinstall of the iPhone using 7.0.6 freshly downloaded from apple like support suggested. Nothing changed, still not working with the lightning cable that came with the iphone.

     

    So, tomorrow, call apple again, get them so send a new cable. I am not willing to pay for that cable because its not even half a year old. Quality at apple really starts to drop ... sadly ...

    Unfortunately I discovered this thread too late. I decided to upgrade to ios 7 because of the major security flaw. Since upgrading my cable no longer works. This is a major pain because I had to travel to the computer my iphone syncs with. And now I'll have to replace the cable and come back again. Reprehensible.

    I have had to claim on my insurance to get my phone replaced as Apple and O2 have been useless - Apple kept telling me the phone was faulty and it was not a software issue when it clearly is/was. Very unhappy with it all and I can't believe there's been nothing about this in the news/press?

    Try 7.0.6, havent tried throughly but one of those cables that stopped working, is now working!

    I Suspect this update rushed out by Apple might fix this issue but as I have no power to start the phone it's too late for me!

     

    3 weeks without my phone, a 100 mile trip to an Apple store which included having to take a half days holiday, an ever increasing phone bill calling O2 and now £50 down as I have to pay the excess on my insurance to get a new phone.

    In a desperate situation, you could purchase a battery case with its own charging port, the mophie I recieved as a gift uses the universal plug & I mostly charge it (& the phone at the same time in the case) from my roomie's slamsung cable. The phone complains STILL about the slamsung cable, but it does charge. If I use the mophie cable, or a crackberry issued cable, the phone does not complain. However, none of these cables will allow a data connection to a puter with the phone in the case. The $10 aftermarket lightning cables I bought also charge, but no data.

    I had an aftermarket charger but also had the original both of which were working till I did the last software update-then neither would work. I threw away the aftermarket charger but the Apple charger still wouldn't work. I tested the charger & it worked on other phones. I eventually reset my phone & it seems to be charging at least but still getting the error message about cable not certified. I guess my next thing to do is contact Apple support.

    Time to say goodbye to Apple products. I switched home and business to Apple in 2010 because their products and systems seemed reliable and easy to use.

     

    My upgrade to iphone 5S has been a real problem. Failed calls, unreliable blutooth connection in car, cable connection in car doesn't work and now we can only find one cable/charger combination that works. I've followed the thread about Apple licensed cables but believe this approach is only in the interests of the seller and not its customers.

     

    It seems to me every time I use the cable to connect in the car, it no longer works as a charger.

     

    Now my Mac Mini Server is frozen (been here before with an hour long support call to reboot the device), my Apple TV has malfunctioned during an update (and required a micro USB cable to restore it - which of course it doesn't come with) and one of our macbooks has slowed down to a snails pace (and yes, I've cleaned it). Time Capsule also crashed and stopped sending out a wifi signal. That seems to have restored itself but it now seems to have a lift of its own. Oh and I forgot, the day we changed to the 5S, one of the old 4S phones stopped receiving wifi connections, so I can't deregister it (which no one told me to do when they dished out the phones!).

     

    I've already ordered some Windows 8 laptops all of which seem to function well. Dumping Apple and all out iTunes stuff may be a step too far but do find this cable thing with iOS7 makes me a feel too much like a hostage.

    I have found that standard charging blocks (even ones by Apple) eventually diminish on it's output capability.

    I have taken a multimeter to various blocks comparing them (new vs. old) and found listed voltage and amperage has diminished on the older blocks. This diminished capacity will most certainly cause a error in the device's charging protection circuit and throw the "uncertified accessory" error.

     

    Before tossing the cable, try using a different charging block or possibly a 2.1 amp USB plug.

    Apple, come on now.  Can't you try to innovate and lead the industry instead of falling backwards? New source of revenue? Let them buy our  "Certified" accesories.  I was thinking about buying a Macbook Air and this lousy update got me thinking twice.

    Btw, both of my cables are apple certified and they are both duds now.  One of them came with the iphone 5 and i bought the other one at bestbuy paying 7 more bucks than belkin one.  Thanks, Apple.

    It's definately due to the 7.0.6 upgrade.  I have a Belkin car charger and an AmazonBasics cable.  They worked fine with my iPhone 5s until the upgrade.  Girlfriend just purchased an iPhone 5s yesterday and it was on 7.0.5 iOS.  Cable worked fine when she drove home from the Apple Store.  I then made the mistake of upgrading her to 7.0.6 yesterday afternoon.  Last night we both tried to use the same AmazonBasics cable that again worked perfectly for both of us prior to the upgrade and now both of us get the complaint that this cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone.

     

    Apple you're really upsetting a lot of people.
