Feb 23, 2014 10:58 AM in response to Amelia1927by TomV256,I'd be extremely happy if I could figure out how to make it work as you did. But the only potentially useful information I get using the Ez7z is a notice from a file called OPS/toc.xhtml that says the epub file "is not a supported archive." There doesn't seem to be a file anywhere with the identification you describe. Could you possibly provide the "for Ez7z for dummies" step-by-step directions? Thanks in advance.
- Install eCanCrusher.
- Add it to your dock.
- Create ePub using Pages 5.
- Place ePub on desktop.
- Drag ePub file onto eCanCrusher icon in dock.
- A folder will appear on desktop sharing the name of your ePub.
- Open this folder.
- Open OPS folder.
- Open epb.opf file with Text Edit.
- Press Apple F to open search box.
- Search for 'toc' (without quotes).
- One of the results will be this element: <itemref idref="toc" linear-"yes"/>
- Remove this whole element very carefully, leaving no spaces.
- Save and close this file.
- Exit Finder.
- Drag the folder onto the eCancrusher icon in the dock.
- A new ePub will be created on the desktop.
- This one will not contain the auto-generated toc.
- Make a cup of tea.

Feb 23, 2014 12:06 PM in response to Amelia1927by Amelia1927,I'd give you 10 points (or 20 if it were possible), but the rewards tool doesn't seem to be available at the moment.

Mar 27, 2014 3:38 PM in response to TomV256by Luke Towers,Hi Tom - Just followed your directions for removing TOC from epubs made by Pages 5.1 - great - you provided the solution - thank you very much. If only Apple could make that happen within the program itself eh?
