Thanks for that ridiculous commment Yankee.

There is not such thing as an unsupported carrier, the iPhone IS A PHONE, and WIND IS A PHONE NETWORK, which means it should work on any phone network.

Perhaps, the next time you decide to enter a forum topic, a) you will have a clue what you are talking about and b) have some experience in regards to this issue.

    Another Apple *** kisser, lol.

Please just keep your comments south of the border where they belong Yankee Doodle.

    You're welcome, pepper.

    Sorry. You're wrong. Here's the list: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

If you're an example of what the schools in Canada produce these days, I guess I shouldn't feel so bad about the state of the educational system down here.

Special thanks to Mr. smcclay for helping me fixing my problem, imessage and facetime uses my mobile phone number now.

to Mr. mo416, you should be ashamed of yourself, you're charging $20 for this process while in fact the one who discovered this doesn't even charge a single penny. Shame on you sir.

I've tried following smcclay's instructions a few times, and after a few tries I finally got it to work!

I don't have a second WIND sim card however, the only other card I have access to is from Speakout (7-11, using Rogers network).

I think the problem on my first two attempts was that after decoding the message from the +44 address and preparing my own SMS message, it took me about 60 - 90 minutes to get set up with a platform that let me send AT commands to a GSM device.

In that time, I think either my phone must have sent a second request to Apple, or maybe I inadvertently did it myself. I saw this message in the Baseband log after it received my attempt:

6348.727 sms: Rejecting PNR response: Received cookie that does not match one we created: 5df95244 != d744bfb

So with everything all plugged in and set up and ready to go, I repeated the whole process in the space of a few minutes:

    - toggled imessage off then on again

    - waited 15 or 20 seconds

    - dumped the baseband log

    - synced with itunes

    - opened the baseband log and found the message from +44

    - went through smcclay's instructions to recreate the new message

    - sent the new message immediately

To verify, after 15 or 20 seconds I dumped the baseband log again and found the PNR success message. And sure enough, now my WIND phone number shows up as valid and working on iMessage.

YAY! So you do not need to use a second WIND sim card to do this; the Speakout / Rogers one worked. Also, for what its worth I don't have a phone that can do AT commands, I used a GSM shield and an Arduino.

And a big thank-you to smcclay for figuring all this out!

    Cheers!

Hi please help me getting imessage activated. I'm fairly techie and can follow your instructions but I'm getting stumped at step 2 itself, when activating logging. (iphone 4s on Speakout - a Rogers reseller)

    1.     Dial: *KOOL*CSI# (*5005*274#) and hit Dismiss button.

    >>> This one goes OK, I get a blank screen and press Dismiss.

    2.     Dial: *KOOL*DIAG# (*5005*3424#) and hit Dismiss button.

    >>> This one throws an error message ( Error performing request. Unknown Error ). I press Dismiss to it as well and then rebooted the phone.

    >>> Then I followed all steps, waited 10 minutes after activating imessage and typed command *5005*78283# to collect logs. The logfiles do get copied into a folder with the timestamp same as that of syncing of the phone but searching in Notepad++ does not bring up any +44 numbers.

I'm on Speakout Network (A Rogers reseller in canada) and it does not support short code SMS.

Are your instructions only valid for Wind network? I'd have thought it'd work for any carrier.

Could it be something to do with error on doing Step 2 that is preventing full logging?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I'm a Speakout user and It's good to know you got it working on Speakout

I'm just curious how it worked. When you used your Speakout SIM, you obviously activated your imessage while your phone had a Speakout number.

Then when you switched the Speakout SIM with the Wind SIM, wouldn't it stop working because now your device has a different number?

If it doesn't matter which SIM is used for activation, wouldn't it be easy to just borrow a Roger's SIM from someone, activate imessage (I'm presuming Rogers subscribers can activate imessage without issues) and then just take out Roger's SIM, put back your Wind or Speakout SIM and it's done?

These instructions will not work for Speakout, as the outgoing message nevers gets to Apple's activation server. The previous poster was using a Speakout SIM to send the activation message to his Wind connected iPhone. He was not activating iMessage on a Speakout connected iPhone.

If you can find the outgoing message destined for the short code in the logs (the log file should be named like this: "log-bb-2014-02-23-17-43-01-csi.txt", you may be able to send it as an SMS to one of UK numbers that Apple uses for activation.

The message should start with "REG-REQ?". Send it to +447537410297 as an SMS from your iPhone and see if iMessage wil activate.

It looks like the message in the log ends with an ! (exclamation). It should not be included as part of the SMS.

Thanks, This is the message line:

79.258 mms: Created PNR registration request: REG-REQ?v=3;t=ED6D347C3A8E188C0CA1A448E538EEC83B929C3F40EFBBA3C8B691F1A821C176; r=2b24a212!

So the SMS should be "v=3;t=ED6D347C3A8E188C0CA1A448E538EEC83B929C3F40EFBBA3C8B691F1A821C176;r=2b24a 212"

I'm presuming the first character "?" is invalid as well or am I wrong?

    Regards

    The message would be:

    "REG-REQ?v=3;t=ED6D347C3A8E188C0CA1A448E538EEC83B929C3F40EFBBA3C8B691F1A821C176; r=2b24a212"

It may need to be sent within 30 minutes of being generated.

Since my status still shows "waiting for activation" I just sent the message.

If this fails I'll generate the code again

    Appreciate your help.

Do you get a reply message from 447786205094 showing in the logs after you send it? If you want, you can send a log that has the outbound SMS to the short code (and inbound from 447786205094 if you get one) to wind@theonlinemac.com and I'll take a look.

Yes, there is a reply from the number. Mailed the log files (before and after sending response) to you.

    Thank you
