Q: How do I turn off "Do Not Disturb" on iphone - all the help clauses tell you how to enable, but not how to disable!

How do I turn off Do Not Disturb?

I checked with a friends iphone, and when they open this screen, it just states it is off.

Mine has lots of options, and even if I click all of them as off (half moon is white), the bottom section called "Silence" only has two options.

Either

"Always" on, or " Only while iphone is locked".

And I don't want it on at all.... how do I switch it off... Help!

Thanks

That section makes no difference if Do Not Disturb is off. Go into Settings>Do Not Disturb and just make sure that Manual and Scheduled are both turned off. At that time, Do Not Disturb is off.

The easiest way is throught the Control Center. Invoke the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Tap the DND shortcut.

You can also turn it of in Settings>Do Not Disturb>Manual and slide it to off (no green).

The bottom section you're referring to affects how DND works when it's enabled. You can set it to only be in effect when the screen is locked. Or, you can set it so that once you turn it on, it will work even if the screen is still lit. Neither of those settings turn DND on or off.

Thank you for your quick response!  However, when the phone is locked (automatically after 5 mins), all calls are going straight to my voice box and not even ringing?

    ANy ideas?

It appears that DND is still activated for a locked phone. Is the DND icon still visible on the status bar?

Thanks again for your quick response too!  I swiped up from bottom, and can confirm that DND is off.

However, I have missed several calls this morning when my phone is locked and they all went to voice mail directly. One caller told me that the phone didn't even ring and just went to voice box? I am new to iphone and not a tech wizz so is there something else I have not done?

    Or done?

Do you have DND scheduled? Settings>Do Not Disturb>Scheduled. Do you have the mute switch engaged? It's the little slider over the volume buttons on the side. If you can see orange, it's engaged. Slide it the other way. Do you have a good signal?

Hello! Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Turning off the "Do Not Disturb" feature is simple. Open Settings on your iDevice and you'll see the "Do Not Disturb" button with a moon icon at the side. Open it, and disable all options, yes all, turn it all off, and at the "Silence" section, press the "Only while iPhone is Locked" option. If you have more questions, reply to me.

Darn, I wish Chris and I had thought of that.

You might want to check with your carrier. Is it possible that you have some type of conditional call forwarding set up with them?

Thanks to you all for your help.  I have set everything to off - and now I am just waiting for a colleague to ring me to check it is working, and if not, will check with my carrier, as we did update something with them last week and they may have inadvertently done something on the call forwarding side.

Thanks again everyone.... only just joined this community, and its very reassuring to have help so near at hand and so fast!!!

Just to clarify: the settings under Silence only affect what happens if DND is on. If it is off, they have no effect at all. If you have no crecent moon in the status bar, the problem is most likely not DND.

    Best of luck.
