Q: Massive problem with audio interface

Hi there.

I recently bought a brandnew iMac 27" Haswell i7. I encountered problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface. These are buzzing, clicking and noise immediately or after 3 minutes or so. I tried everything, re-installed the driveres several times, nothing, really nothing worked.

Then I bought an RME Babyface audio interface - and guess what? It's the same problem. I also have a massive sound noise after some minutes or the recording channel in Garage Band drops completely.

What is wrong here? I already tried using a different power plug, tried all USB ports, turned off WiFi, HDD sleep mode, etc. Nothing worked.

Do you have an idea?

I appeciate your help,

Adrian.

My guess would be that this is a global fix irrespective of Fusion Drive Macs. In the 10.9.2 release notes it said Apple updated OSX VoiceOver wich is a core feature in all Macs.

Btw, I had the crackling issue in every audio application I own, not just Logic.

It seems to have solved this issue across the board.

Still testing, but so far so good. Clean digital silence and true recorded sound.

Ok, I hope I'm not talking too early but...

Brand new Haswell 27" iMac, 1TB Fusion Drive, MOTU Audio Express (USB 2.0, latest drivers and firmware), OS X 10.9.1. Playing audio with any software, be it Logic, iTunes or even Quicklook, resulted in random short playback interruptions with the audio board front leds blinking.

I did even try with an old USB Line6 PodXT but it was even worse with gross audio playback stuttering.

So, I decided to install the latest 10.9.2 beta (13C62) and... well I'm heavily knocking on wood about this, but I've been using this setup during the last three days, playing and recording audio as much as I can and, so far, my Audio Express seems to work like a charm.

On the contrary, the old Pod XT is still not working... Maybe this is a different kind of issue not strictly related to Fusion Drive... but frankly at this point, as long as I can use  my Audio Express, I don't give a **** about it.

I will continue with other tests in the next days (I 10 have 10 days left to ask a refund for my iMac), but, at least, the future seems a little brighter now...

    Hi guys n gals

Just to report back: I have been using a beta version of Mavericks 10.9.2 for about 2 weeks now and has 98% improved the problem of distortion with my USB KA6 audio interface and my late 2013 FD iMac.

I get the very occasional pop still but it has been a massive improvement.

I read on here that other people have tried the beta update and it didn't work, but the thing to remember here is that there are various itterations of the beta update, and the one I have been using is the latest one.

My concern now is that when the official version is released that my iMac won't update to it as it will think that it is already running it, but Apple reassure me that this will not be the case as the official release will be a differet file with a subsequent number to it so my computer should recognise to want to install it.

    Paul

PS - one thing to note is that a milder version of the distortion returns when I use Garage Band (which thankfully I rarely use, Logic being my DAW) so ther is clearly work for Apple to do yet.

After I posted my comment above I read through some of the prior comments and I was depressed to read that some people are still experiencing problems. So I repeat: the latest beta version of Mavericks 10.9.2 fixes the problem. So forget contacting Apple and just go though all the previous posts on here until you find the download link for the beta version (I hope the link is still there and working, but if not try other forums like Gearslutz). Install it and your problems will be gone.   There are a few very minor glitches (the Finder has looped off when I have tried to copy and paste iterms from one folder to another occasionally) but they are totally not a major problem and, more importantly, you will be back making music within 30 minutes.  And I have been told by Apple that you can update to the official version without a problem when it is released.

Can someone please provide a download link to 10.9.2 beta. I would like to try it. The link provided from OSX86 is corrupt.

    Many thanks,

Install this and it will appear in your normal Apple Software Update.

Well I downloaded the new Maverick update in beta .... It did enable Garageband to work semi-flawlessly but not Steinburg Cubase .  There is still a redicuous hiss/distortion over top of the tracks after I map the ports on my PreSonus Audiobox.  I have no idea what to do next or what is causing it.  This is agravating!

Posted in this thread in early December. Using a mbox pro 3, Logic Pro x, with late 2013 iMac 27" core i7, 32 gb, 3 TB fusion drive. Has anyone tested any of the latest 10.9.2 betas with an Mbox Pro 3 and Logic Pro X?

I used ukstu's link to download the 10.9.2 beta, and my problems, both with the Apogee Mic and the Yamaha THR are solved. Thanks!

I am still waiting for a fix. Unfortumately I cannot use anything that is less than professional standards since the product to my clients must be of professional quality. I do understand that most of us also have project studios where a certain amount of flexibility is allowed. I hope that most on this board can appreciate what I am saying since we are paying Apple to deliver a professional product to us capible of high quality output and operation. Best,

    Peter

I have installed the 10.9.2 beta 13C62 and happy to say that it solved all my audio problems.

I am using iMac i7 late model (Haswell), 1To Fusion Drive and a Prism Orpheus for sound module.

I am using also the Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter and a Sonnet Echo Express II Thunderbolt-to-PCI Express Card Expansion chassis for my Universal Audio Cards.

My Prism Orpheus is a class-compliant FireWire Core Audio device, so no need to update any drivers.

    10.9.2 is out!

I'm downloading it right now and I can confirm it shows up in the app store software update even if I'm running the beta.

You should also note that in the Changes , it lists that it fixes the audio distortion problem
