Q: iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

Thank you so much! This was one of the issues I had that sent my computer to the shop to be fixed. I got it home, and they didn't fix either issue after $175. I came home and found your suggestion and followed it. I fixed the issue by myself. I also did not need to re-install my music. It was all still there and works perfectly now.

    Thanks again

What is IObit's power uninstaller? Control Panel will not expunge Apple Mobile Device Support no matter how many times I tell it to.

The Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility should be able to force AMDS to uninstall... Or it may not be necessary. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more.

    rjmacpherson gave the FIX

Delete your Apple programs and then reinstall.

Takes an hour or so but it works.

Thanks RJ - you 'da man!

Excuse me - I should say Uninstall your Apple programs, not Delete.

Uninstall them and then Install ITunes and you will be good.

I've been going crazy for a week now trying to figure out what was wrong with my pc.  This is the solution I was looking for.  It was easy to follow and worked like a charm.  I for sure thought I would've had to take my pc in to get fixed.  Thanks for letting me keep my money in my wallet.

I have tried uninstalling in the order listed and reinstalling, then rebooting but just get the same error.

    Any other ideas?

    G'day Marrowetur,

Read the instructions in my second post on page 2 of this Topic.

Remember to reboot after each step before you go to the next.

Ok, so I'm on Windows Vista and have had this problem for a little bit now.  After initially installing the iTunes update last month, all this stuff started.  Now I've tried following all the steps listed here.  At first it would let me uninstall everything, however, for some reason I have 2 versions of "Apple Application Support" installed.  Versions 2.2.2 and 3.0.  When I did the first uninstall it would do all of them except the older version of App Support.  It would not let me uninstall that.  I tried reinstalling, same fatal error as everyone else, tried it again as per the instructions that are on the 2nd page here.  Nothing.

I got frustrated and just left it alone for a while.  Now I'm trying it again, however anytime I try to do anything with any of the components it keeps telling me that it "Cannot access Network Location" over and over.  So I search for that problem.  Found this solution:

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3861

I followed the instructions exactly and am still stuck as if nothing changed.  I went back and double checked to see that the addition to regedit took and it did, but I still can't access anything.  I'm frustrated and out of ideas.  Anyone able to help?

Can I point you in the direction of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates again? Between Unlocker and the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") you ought be able to get all of the components deregistered from programs and features, and clean out the installation folders so that a clean reinstall is possible.

    G'day kevin120,

If the instructions posted by turingtest2 are a little too technical for you, then read the 1st and 2nd posts I made on page 2 of this topic.

Otherwise print a hard copy of these instructions,

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

    And note these comments,

Most of you will undoubtedly forget to reboot after the first steps, i.e. you must reboot after Step 1 instructions before you go to deleting the folders described in step 2, etc. and also reboot after completing step 2 before you go to step 3 and re-install iTunes.

If a instruction for a proceedure in any step does not complete correctly, then re-boot and attempt the same instruction again before proceeding to the next Step.

You can also use the "Windows Install Clean Up", works for Operating system: Windows NT/98/Me/2000/XP/Vista/7- download from here and install it which will then apear in your Start Menu/Programs list to run it. You will then find the Apple Items that were stuborn which you can then Remove. However ensure that you attempt the instructions in the Steps first and only use "Windows Install Clean Up" when you have rebooted and attempted the instruction for a second time.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.  As stated in my earlier post, I tried everything that you instructed on the 2nd page, however, I get nothing.  It continues to tell me that it "could not access network location", it asks if i want to retry or if i want to cancel.  "Retry" just does nothing and the same box continues to come up.  If click on "cancel", it just gives me another box saying "Could not access network location" and then to just click "OK".  And that's it, I'm completely stuck.

I get that same message while trying to uninstall any apple program.  So it won't let me access it to uninstall it.  If I try to open iTunes it gives me a box that's titled "iTunes.exe - Unable to Locate Component" and the box reads "This application has failed to start because icudt49.dll was not found.  Re-installing this application may fix this problem."  It also gives me another box that reads "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 126)."

Then if I go under start menu to "Apple Support Update" it tells me, same as earlier, "Could not access network location".

If I try to reinstall by going to the iTunes website, it goes through most of the motions only to tell me at the end that the "iTunes Installer Interrupted.  Errors occured during installation before the requested operations for iTunes could be completed."

I also tried downloading the "Windows Install Clean Up" you suggested, however it was unable to download because it tells me it only works for Windows 95/98, even though the site states it should work for Vista.

Right now I'm letting the MS Install/Uninstall Fix-It program have its shot at the situation, but it's still working on iTunes and its been about 45 minutes.  I wasn't going to reply back, but just in case this last part doesn't work, I just wanted to let you guys know where I'm at, plus I've been at this awhile and it's late.  But if the Mr. Fix-It does work, I'll post back.  Thanks again guys for your help and quick responses!
