Q: iPhone 4s, echo when using apple headset during a call

I'm having an issue with my 32 gb iPhone 4s with Rogers.  When using the Apple hands free headset with the phone during a call, I get an echo problem. It does not occur immediately. It can very from 30 seconds into a call and as far up to 9 mins in before it begins the annoying echo. If I unplug the headset it goes away but will return when I plug the headset back in. I have tried 3 brand new iphone 4s headsets with the same problems. So far I have tried rebooting, and also restored phone back to factory original settings as a new phone and still no resolution. I have been told by the other person on the line a screech sound is made then the echo begins.

Same problem here. People I'm talking to hear an echo if they call me or I call them and my headset is plugged in. The speakerphone on/off thing doesn't help. Only unplugging the headset helps so far.

I can try the tape trick - is it that little pinprick of a hole next to the headset jack? I didn't know that was a mic.

Go to the product feedback page and tell Apple how you feel about this issue. The only thing that will get them to take this seriously is if enough people state that they will not buy another iphone unless this problem is fully addressed. Fee free to use what I sent them:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

    -------------------------------------------------

The voice quality on a phone call using the iphone 4 is poor, at best. It is way too compressed, thanks to AT&T.

Plus, when I plug my phone into my car stereo and try and perform a call, the other party hears themselves echoing all the time!

150,000 + people have viewed this issue, yet you have never resolved the problem.

In conclusion, Apple needs to make sure that the next iphone has HD voice quality and good speakerphone (via aux out). I am not going to bother buying a new Apple iphone unless you address these two critical issues. When speech intelligibility fails on my phone talking with my family and friends, you are failing on the basics.

Please address in the iphone 6. Thank you.

I solved this problem disabling noise canceling.

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Hearing Aids, and turn on Hearing Aid Mode. This will disable noise canceling.

To date I had no more echo issues.

    Hope this helps.

    Walter,

I was really excited about using your solution.  However, it appears that hearing aid mode searchers for a compatible blue tooth enabled hearing aid near by.  When it does not find one it quickly shuts off.  If blue tooth is not enabled it also disables Hearing Aid mode.

That's strange, I returned to the settings page and the Hearing Aid was off, but I confirm that I never got echo problems from then on. O_o

I tried a lot of things to get rid of the echo during calling with my 4S.

Finally I solved the problem by removing the metal mesh and the foam from the microphone next to the dockconnector. If I cover the mic during a call the echo is back again. So I think a lot of dirt in the mesh/foam were blocking the mic and causing the echo.

Ok, but how this could fix the echo with wired or bluetooth earpones?

has Apple provided a fix and/or guidance relating to this issue?

Absolutely yes: Apple fix is: "Buy an iPhone 5s".

    What else?
