Q: How to use youtube video?

I've chosen the video template for an iBooks Author widget.  I bring up the inspector and paste in the youtube URL from the embed code (with "http:" part).  iAd Producer clears out the link once I click away.  Is this type of video not compatible with iAd Producer?

The YouTube URL is not a link to a raw video but to YouTube's wrapper (usually some kind of web page or iframe). If you paste in a link to a raw video – something that ends with .mp4, .m4v or .mov – it will work.

If you really want all of the YouTube skinning, use a full-screen HTML widget and paste the URL inside that. Here's an example of the code snippet that embeds a video of the recent lunar impact:

    <div><iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zCFDkj2JtyA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen width="1024" height="768" sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-top-navigation"></iframe></div>

    Hope that helps!

Have you actually tried it?  Paste that into the HTML widget and preview.  Nothing.

Yes, I copied that from a working project. Ensure that the newlines you pasted from my post are spaces and it should work. (I just reconfirmed functionality in Safari, the iOS Simulator and Quick Preview.)

I'm not sure what you are doing.  Copying the youtube embed code, pasting it between the divs in a new HTML widget and previewing in iAd Producer doesn't work.  If you are getting it to work, you're doing something completely different or using different software.

I spoke to soon.  After you export the widget and drop it into iBooks Author, it does work.  There's a little lag after the user click the widget and when the actualy play button appears.  Besides that, it seems to work fine.  Thanks!

It seems to be random if this will work or not.  Now none of the embedded youtube videos work.  I'm following the same steps but not getting the same results.

Found issue - have to add the "http:" part, which is not included in the embed code.
