Q: Massive problem with audio interface

Hi there.

I recently bought a brandnew iMac 27" Haswell i7. I encountered problems with my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface. These are buzzing, clicking and noise immediately or after 3 minutes or so. I tried everything, re-installed the driveres several times, nothing, really nothing worked.

Then I bought an RME Babyface audio interface - and guess what? It's the same problem. I also have a massive sound noise after some minutes or the recording channel in Garage Band drops completely.

What is wrong here? I already tried using a different power plug, tried all USB ports, turned off WiFi, HDD sleep mode, etc. Nothing worked.

Do you have an idea?

I appeciate your help,

Adrian.

Thanks to all involved.  Apple and this group!

iMac 2013, 16gb, i7, 1TB Fusion drive. My USB Echo Audio 2 is not working correctly with 10.9.2, there are still problems! Interface drops out and disapears after 5 minutes of being plugged in, have to reboot for it to be recognised again.

This is beyond a joke Apple

I'm at the studio today and going to thoroughly road test 10.9.2. Before this my haswell 13 MacBook was glitching and crackling during recording with minor to zero artifacts or issues elsewhere. My USB sound card drivers were updated to 10.9.1 compatible which solved most issues before the update.

To be honest performance in ableton live had dropped with the previous update with buffer underuns happening even when CPU wasn't very high 40-50% regardless of audio interface. Hopefully this issue is also solved.

I appreciate it's millions of lines of code and any changes can screw up dependant code elsewhere but I'm still confused why Apple chose to fiddle with a very important part that could cause so much expensive gear to act no better than a brick for audio. most audio gear is many times more costly than the price of a mac as it's so specialist so it's a bad sector to mess with as they spend a lot.

I'm glad it's finally working for you, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a late 2013 Mac combined with Propellerhead Balance!

Yes--see my post above. I've used it successfully with Pro Tools 11 and 10.9.2.

    Almost everything is better BUT:

I still have audio crackling watching video in quicktime and full screen video in iTunes.

music playback and audio recording is fine and even watching videos in itunes in windowed mode is fine, just quicktime and fullscreen itunes videos crackle a little

its better than before but its still crackling

Thank you! Thought I read the entire discussion. Did your Mbox get totally quiet after a couple of seconds/minutes too before the update?

Correct. It would just drop out when trying to use the Mbox as the output source. When trying to record sessions in Pro Tools, I would almost immediate get a DAE error. All working now!

Still having issues with my 3T fusion dirve and MOTU 828 interface. Dropout after 20-30 minutes. Same with low level distortion on low passages.

Updated to 10.9.2. No change in my experience. Audio still distorted and choppy through QuickTime and Safari when using my Mbox Pro 3 (latest drivers). I have an early 2013 Retina MacBook Pro.

There are still issues with USB 3 ports and USB Audio interfaces in 10.9.2.

I spoke to Echo the manufacturer of my card and they are aware of the issue and apparently have a bug report filed with Apple, I presume it's similar with other manufacturers too.
