Feb 23, 2014 4:17 PM in response to nima_totemby Mike Sombrio,If the keyboard was previousley paired to that mac there is no need to have to do it again. Unless YOU unpaired it intentionally.http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1809

Feb 26, 2014 5:33 AM in response to heckrockby Kingoftypos,For the both of you.
Turn your Mac on, wait until the login screen appears.
Turn off your keyboard, wait several seconds. Hopefully a "Keyboard turned off" or "Keyboard disconnected" comes up. Then remove the batteries.
Turn the Mac off then turn it back on.
When it turns back on, it should say missing keyboard or something of the sort. Put the batteries back into the keyboard and turn it back on. Hopefully it should start talking again.
It sounds like you two have a Mac that doesn't have a built-in keyboard. So you could easily reset the SMC...

Feb 26, 2014 1:53 PM in response to nima_totemby Eric Root,System Preferences/Bluetooth - try turning it off, log out/in and turn it back on. If they still won't pair, try deleting them and then repair them per the instructions in Mike's post.
