Q: IOS7 iPhone emails disappearing, are not delivered

Ever since I upgraded to IOS7 on my iPhone 4, I cannot send email. After I write the email and send it, it disappears. It does not show up in sent mail, and the intended recipient does not receive it. This happens on gmail, yahoo and aol accounts.  I can send and receive email just fine on my PC laptop. But no longer on my IOS7 iPhone. Occasionally the iPhone email is delivered hours later, but that is rare.  I have "rebooted" my iPhone, with no effect. Can I fix this?  Is it my iPhone or is it IOS7?  Can/will Apple fix this?  Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone know what I can do?

The error disappeared since I turned off the periodic synchronisation of Mails. Anyway I continue to double check if mails are send.

Resetting the network settings fixed the issue for me! Thanks. Here's the link again, for newcomers to this discussion: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB96827&cv=820&_requestid=227162#fbi d=qI32qVVJ-Oo

Holy crap, @slychickie, you are an angel from heaven.  That freaked me out that I could recreate it - I too close email accounts (my work one, so I don't have to pay attention to it on the weekend).  Same thing started on my iPad, and now I realize I turn my mail off there, too.

    So what happened at Genius??

    Hi BubbaChubba,

Unfortunately, I never made it back to the Genius Bar.  The main reason is because I don't think they'll be able to fix it, and I haven't wanted to take time out of my day to go on a potentially fruitless mission.  However, I really want to see if they can fix it, or at least move this problem up the chain of support to see if somebody can fix it.  I'll give it a shot just to see if they can help (the second time around).  For the time being, I have just not turned off my work email (exchange), or remembered to reboot my email after I do turn it off (which is a pain).  I have made a new appointment for Saturday afternoon.  I'll keep you posted.  Really this time.

I just got back from the Genius Bar, and I'm actually pretty optimistic.  I told him what triggers my email not to send (turning off my exchange server email).  he tried turning it off and sending.  Of course no go.  He tried deleting my other emails and adding them back.  No luck.  We set my phone back to factory settings, then added my email accounts back (not that sure that it matters, but we did my non-exchange emails first).  I tried sending with the email on, it worked.  I turned my work/exchange email off and sent from another account.... and it sent!  I'm very hopefully that this will continue working properly, but I'll see how it goes for another week or so and check back in.  Make sure you back up everything before you reset your phone.

@slychickie @BubbaChubba, same thing here! Occurs when I turn work email off for the weekend. Because who wants work email on the weekend?

So am I understanding the only solution, other than closing the mail app every time you switch an account off, is to reset your phone to factory, restore from backup and then add the mail accounts back?

    What a pain.

No - just erasing all email accounts and re-inputting manually did it for me. See my post on Jan 22, 2014 at 3:59 PM.

I'm sticking with slychickie's "double helix" find of "swiping up" email and then opening it up again for now. I am curious if s/he continues to have the same problem after turning off an email account since resetting to factory.  Seems to me that s/he probably will and we will have to wait for the Apple Gods to provide a long-term fix.

Frankly I am leaving my iPhone alone when I get home from work and just use my iPad at home for "pleasure" (non-work) emails. That old fashioned work around works best! (P.S. I have learned the same thing happens to iPads!)

Poor Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave. Apple is now the new Microsoft. Gone are the days of flawless hardware and software. There is absolutely no accountability at Apple with Tim Cooks. Ever since Craig Federighi has taken over, the quality of iOS software has gone down the tube. More concerned about quantity of releases rather than quality. Would be ashamed to be an iOS engineer.

HI, I seem to have a very slightly diferent issue with my missing folders.

I only have Inbox & Trash visible.  However, if I send an email, my Sent box appears and I can see all previously Sent items.  If I exit mail and go back in, my Sent box has disappeared again.  The only one I get to see it, is if I send a mail & stay in mail.  I'm constantly sending mails to myself when I want to view my sent items.!

I still haven't found the other folders yet though.

I DONT and never have turned any accounts off (I only have 2, mail and icloud) and to be honest I'm thinking this probably only started when I turned on icloud a few weeks ago.  I can't remember NOT having my sent items etc before this but I am not 100% sure.  I tried installing yahoo account and then deleteing it as others have sugegsted but this made no difference to the existing accounts.

I installed the latest update recently (7.0.6) and so far unable to reproduce the problem by disabling / enabling email accounts. Before updating I was always able to. Fingers crossed...

Sorry to burst your bubble. I too thought the problem had been fixed by 7.0.6 but alas...more mysteriously disappearing emails in to a black hole this morning. I really wonder if Apple can be held accountable for any financial losses as a result of their malfunctioning software. Either they disable to 'on/off' feature for emails or fix it!

RIGHT - I believe that I have found the problem for me:

I have 3 email accounts on my phone - 2 work and a social one.  I turn on and off the work ones(never the social one!!)  depending on whether I want to receive emails or not.  Whenever I turn off my exchange account  I get the problem we have been describing of disappearing emails with no warning. When I reboot the phone it is then fine until such time as I turn on exchange email again , use it for a while and then turn it off - and then I have the problem.

So, not sure of the fix yet but I believe that is what is happening with my phone. I would be VERY intereted to know if anyone else has the same problem - please post !!

    thanks

HeYow - YOU ARE CORRECT.  Bingo.  I have posted to this effect herein, as have others.  I have lamely sent a note to Apple advising them of this "bug" (that did not go away when I upgraded my iPhone software last week).

Turn off an account (like, work) so you won't see your work email when you try and chillax and Sending email (from another account or EVEN FROM THAT WORK ACCOUNT AFTER YOU TURN IT BACK ON is corrupted.  Until you either reboot or - OR - "swipe up" (close) email and reopen it.

What I don't know is if this is limited to only SOME iPhones or just mine (and yours, and slychickie's, etc.).  It does also happen on my iPad, so it seems like it's not the phone, it's the software.
