Q: Itunes installation issues. Help please

Hi All,

After some help installing Itunes 11.1.5, Ive been reading through the forum post regarding installation issues and dont seem to be able to find a solution. Which really ***** because I just got a new Iphone which I cant use with my Itunes

I tired to update Itunes when it prompted via the Software Manager during installation I got the error during installation "the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

So I downloaded the installer from the Itunes website and ran that, during that I got the error "an installation for Itunes is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?"

i clicked Yes then the installation continued and i got the error "the windows installer service...etc etc"

I have followed the link http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5376 which seemed to resolve the same issue for 11.1.4 but didnt work for 11.1.5. I even tried repeating the process and checking using ctrl, alt del to ensure IPOD services.exe was running which it wasnt.

Ive also tried installing it after right clicking the .exe file and runngin as admin - no joy.

Im using windows 7 - 64 bit

Really stuck any help would be great.

Windows 7

Given that you're on a 64-bit system, we'd better try the following user tip:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows on 64-bit systems

(Other mechanisms can produce the error message too, but we'd better get the one discussed in the user tip off the table.)

Thanks for the link, don't know if I am being stupid, but the screenshots are working for me, tried to view them in Firefox (which doesnt do anything) and in Crome (which displays the image as a broken link/gif)

Also looking in that reg file dont see a  WOW64 REG_DWORD closest is REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1) (serviceSid Type)

Okay ... if that particular registry entry isn't there, some different mechanism is in play.

We'd better try reregistering your Windows Installer service. It's a bit trickier on a 64-bit system than on a 32-bit system (because there's two versions of the installer that we need to attend to), but doable.

First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".

If you have a 32-bit Vista or 7

    At the command prompt:

Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.

If you have a 64-bit Vista or 7

    At the command prompt:

Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.

    Both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista or 7

Restart the PC and try another iTunes install.

    Hello,

I have tired the above however I was unable to right click CMD and run as admin. I put the text into CMD and hit enter on all four but nothing happened.

I have restarted and trying to install Itunes again now.

    Sadly no luck same error:

the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I was able to launch Itunes but gave an error about not having software to use Ipod and iphone and clicking ok the following messgae popped up: "The software required for communicating with Ipods and mode phones could not be repaired. Please reinstall Itunes if you wish to use these devices."

Are any other programs currently failing to install, giving the same Windows installer service error message?

    hi,

No its just seems to be Itunes, I have literally just a few minutes ago installed a file converter, which installed with no issues.

However whilst that was installing it put up a message saing something along the lines of "an installation of inuntes is currently suspended to continue installation you need to remove (or roll back) itunes" it then seemed to uninstalled itunes before it installed the converter.

That would have been the Itunes installation that I tired through the above step after trying the reregistering your Windows Installer service

(Sigh) Sorry, in that case I'm out of sensible suggestions at this point ... other advice providers please feel free to leap in with further suggestions for MrPlissken.
