Q: Airplay won't change to mirror iMac from Extend Desktop

When I turn on Airplay I only get audio. Black screen. Airplay drop down menu shows extend desktop and won't change to mirror iMac. I have restarted, verified/repaired permissions, checked for updates and reconnected everything. Help! How can I get AirPlay to change back to mirror iMac?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

FIXED!!!!!

I tried several solutions, but only got mirror iMac back after doing the following:

1. Download and run uninstall for Air-Parrot http://support.airsquirrels.com/article.php?id=8

2. Manually deleted the following files:

APExtFramebuffer located at: System/Library/Extensions

AirParrotDriver located at: System/Library/Extensions AND /Library/Extensions

3. Restart

I had two AirParrotDriver files. I missed one the first time and it didn't work. Then when I did a search and found the second and deleted it...Presto!!

Yes. Did not help. I also deleted the Air-Parrot files mentioned in other threads. No change.

Since you rely on the 3th party non apple program airparrot have you tried at their forum they may have more insight into their program

I don't "rely" on a 3rd party non-apple program. I had it on my computer from several years ago. I simply hadn't uninstalled it. So, anyone have any ideas? Still looking at a black TV screen.

Hi I tried all that deleting airparrot and all extention still no mirroring however I can play movies from itunes on apple tV. but cannot mirrir imac! anyone else know any secrets?

I am having the same issue. I try clicking on "Mirror iMac" from the Airplay menu but nothing happens. I tried restarting my router, restarting the computer... no luck. Also, I have never had the AirParrot software that people have mentioned on my machine ever. I'm using late 2011 27" iMac, apple TV (2nd gen) and OSx 10.9.2. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my new i7 iMac and Apple TV. It shows mirror as an option (in black) but won't move off of Extended Desktop.

I am having same problem as 4score and R_Fern. I am running the latest version of Merrick and have all the latest updates for Apple Apps. Now I am pretty sure some Apple update has caused this anomaly, since I have had Mirror iMac working flawlessly with Apple tv and my big screen tv in the past..

I have the same problem with my new 21 screen imac, on airplay will get sound but a black screen on my tv, guess we will have to wait for an update.

Yeah still no word on mirroring for imac problem? pretty inconvenient and stupid for ios operating systems to not operate together...

Count me as another Mid 2011 iMac user having the same problem with mirroring to Apple TV. I can't select the mirroring option, even though it's not grayed out. Very frustrating! For what it's worth, I'm running Mavericks 10.9.2.

Same issue - unable to select Mirror iMac. Stuck on black screen on Extend Desktop. I can Airplay movies through iTunes.

Odd though, We have 2 identical iMacs in the house. Both 10.9.2. I removed AirParrot as described from mine, the other never had it. The other iMac can select Mirror iMac. So that rules out the router and the Apple TV itself as a source problem.
