Q: Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.

Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

That's why you move them to folders and not delete them. If this resolves the issue, you start putting them back to figure out which one was causing the problem.

If you test in a new user and the issue persists, you can skip removing the login items, as those are user specific.

I dont have airparrot installed & dont have any start-up items (apart from ituneshelper).

AppleTV will not display any windows moved to it when in extended desktop mode. Sound can be heard, but window is invisible. It will loose connection soon afterwards & the macbook will then refuse to connect until appletv restarted.

I can see the mouse pointer going across the TV, but never any windows that are moved to it.

Worked fine before update. I only tried it again after hearing people where having problem & it appears to effect me also.

Anyone suffering from this issue, please do the following:

    1. Open up System Information (located in /Applications/Utilities, or option+click the apple logo in the menu bar and select it).

    2. On the left side bar locate "Extensions" (you'll have to scroll down a bit)

    3. Look in the list of extensions for "APExtFrameBuffer" as shown in the screenshot.

    Screen Shot 2014-03-01 at 11.58.56 AM.png

Also look for "AirParrotDriver". I had two of them listed, one in /System/Library/Extensions and one in /Library/Extensions.

    Screen Shot 2014-03-01 at 12.13.56 PM.png

    4. If any of these items are found, open Terminal (in Applications>Utilities) and copy/paste these (respectively):

    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext

    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext

    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

If they yield an error, then the file probably doesn't exist. Any one of these could cause the issue, so make sure they are all deleted.

    5. Enter your administrative password when prompted.

    6. Restart your computer.

So you don't have any of these particular drivers installed in /System/Library/Extensions or /Library/Extensions? Can you post screenshots of Finder showing these don't exist? Thanks.

I no longer have any of the AirParrot related bits installed. They've all been removed.

Can you open System Information > Extensions, organize by "obtained from" and post a screenshot of all of the "identified developer" and "not signed" kexts displayed?

I'm not seeing anything that looks problematic off the top of my head.

If you open Console (Applications > Utilities), go to "all messages" and then attempt to initiate the AirPlay Mirroring issue, can you post back the logs that come out? I would hope there would be some useful information there.

are there any menubar caches etc that i could clear?

How easily can you reproduce the problem? If you can make it happen pretty easily, then try testing in another user account and see if you can make it happen there. If yes, then it is system-wide. If no, then it is isolated to your user account. The first thing I would try is to remove Finder-related prefs.

    1. In Finder, go to the menubar > Go, hold down the option key and go to "Library".

    2. Open the "Preferences" folder.

    3. Pull these files (and any files related with similar names) out to your desktop:

    com.apple.dashboard.plist

    com.apple.desktop.plist

    com.apple.dock.plist

    com.apple.finder.plist

    4. Restart your computer to have these files recreated.

    Post your results.

*Note that removing these preference files will reset the corresponding preferences back to the default template, so you will have to redo your dock icons and other settings.

Hi everyone...Same problem here, on my iMac Mid 2011 black screen, only audio (removed airparrot nothing resolved)...on my MacBook Air Mid 2011, with the update to 10.9.2, no problems (had airparrot too, a while ago - still keeps promting me at startup with "Do you want the application “com.squirrels.kextinstaller” to accept incoming network connections?" which sems to be airparrot related)

I'am experiencing similar issues with my older MacBookPro3,1 (2007) (15' LED Display):

      - internal camera does not work any more (is not found)

      - external USB camera (from Microsoft) is not recognized any more

      - in the activity monitor i always see a process "ReportCrash" using 100% CPU which is not finishing

      - fan is running at max speed due to high cpu usage

      - FaceTime, Skype say "no camera found", Photo Booth only shows black window

      - console logs shows (depending on app, restart,...) the following output:

I already deinstalled AirParrot and reinstalled 10.9.2 from AppStore on top again without any change.
