Mac OS X users have not needed the ability to defragment their hard drives. Most defragging is done in the background by the OS. There is one caveat: OS X does not defragment files larger than 20 MB. Quite often, many game files are easily larger than 20 MB. Fragmentation of game files will negatively impact performance of games, particularly FPS games

I suggest you create a NEW Time Machine Backup of your system on an external drive. Then use the original System OS X install disc that came with your Mac to boot from it and then use Disk Utility to Repartition the internal drive as One Partition. Then Restore that Time Machine backup you made then try running the Boot Camp Assistant app to partition the drive for Windows.

Something isn't right with your current partition and no Repairing of permissions or verifying the drive will fix it.

lol spam bot. hop off. ive had this error before and it fixed the error. now its true u dont need defrag to run for ssd but for hdd u do. so stop talking out of your ***.

The correct way to defrag a Mac is to backup, erase and restore, but it is very rarely needed and may not fix this problem, (especially as we do not know what is causing the problem)

Curb your language and try to find out what the problem is before suggesting a remedy for it.

iDefrag is junk, do not recommend it, and if you work for Coriolis then state it.

if its that issue is better to just do a defrag on your hard drive which also helps overall for performance....

No it does not, this is not Windows.

if it was true how come when i defraged my hdd my problem went away? and if you get a picture of the hdd of its content the contents most of them are in one place the other ones which gives problems as to why you cant defrag are all over the hard drive. and when you partition you need a continous space to do partition and if you don't have that due to files being spuradic around the hdd then it will give you problems.

Defraging the hard drive takes longer than doing a TM backup and restoring that TM backup and the TM backup restore works better to place all files in a proper order.

You had some other problem that was coincidentally fixed while you were playing with iDefrag, read this forum and you will find many disasters caused by iDefrag (and iPartition by the same company)

If you continue to recommend it I will be there to disagree, clear?

OS X defrags on it own. When you run the BCA app its first job is to move files on the OS X side so a continuous section of free space is available for the Windows partition.

The OPs problem is not from some type of File Fragmentation. OS X by its nature places files all over the drive so individual files do not become fragmented. But that means OS X is constantly reading from and writing to the drive to move out parts of files that have been changed and place the whole files in a free section of the drive.

Do as both I and Csound1 suggested. Backup your system with Time Machine. Connect an external drive, go into System Preferences, Time Machine and do a backup.

Then boot your system from the Recovery HD, Command + r keys at startup, and erase the Macintosh HD, no security options needed, using Disk Utility. Then when that is done, only a short time, exit Disk Utility and select Restore using a Time Machine backup. When that has finished boot back into OS X and try running Boot Camp assistant to see if you canm partition the drive for Windows.
