Sep 22, 2013 4:51 PM in response to KoloheBooby Jessijean,Thanks so much for the suggestions to tap the phone several times. My daughter who is a new mom had this issue with her phone. Power on and off didn't work. Reset didn't work. Turning off Bluetooth didn't work. Going to verizon wireless where she purchased the phone didn't work - said they couldn't work on it and that she had to go to apple store. Went to the closest one which is over an hour from her house, and the kid at the store said he couldn't do anything for us, that we needed to call and make an appt, that it was a fact of life with the release of the new iPhones a few days ago.
So we were very happy to find this post - tapping it on it's side on a table and voila it worked.
Not thrilled with the lack of customer service at the apple store. An obviously new mother with a baby less than 4 weeks old shouldn't be stuck without a fully functioning phone, especially a phone that she bought new less than 9 months ago. But I guess once you've bought the phone you become a very low priority.

Sep 23, 2013 7:24 PM in response to Jessijeanby Pritpalsn,Hi,
I have an iphone 5 which I bought less than a year ago. It has a same issue I am not able to hear the voice whenever I call or some one call on my Iphone. Two weeks back I visited an apple store and they found it was an receiver issue which they replaced and my iphone was working fine for few days. Same problem reoccured and this it happen for some times and some times it works fine. I took it to apple store and explained them that the problem is not always but some times it is happening. The way the app store customer representative tried to reproduce the issue but it was not reproduced and he returned me the iphone saying it to reset to factory settings. I was surprised with such an response and solution. His response was as if my issue was not a geniune.
Not sure if my iphone will continue to work without any problems.

Dec 10, 2013 6:24 PM in response to KoloheBooby Yakov Hadash,I just had the same experience listed above:
- iPhone can't hear calls
- Knock it around a little bit
- Everything is fixed
Very strange but all’s well that ends well

Dec 10, 2013 7:46 PM in response to hellosofyby mookiemom,Just joined this community and think it's great, helpful, and even entertaining.
Seems that just abusing and whacking the phone fixes some problems?!?
Steve Jobs, do you see what the techies are cookin' ?

Jan 3, 2014 2:56 PM in response to KoloheBooby mb13ct,I had same problem. Deleted the newest App that I added and the issue was resolved. There must have been a software conflict with the newest App.

Feb 2, 2014 12:03 PM in response to KoloheBooby mikem2112,I had this problem earlier today. I was freaking out becasue i thought there was something broken with my phone- not being able to hear my text tone with full volume, nor hear a caller (although i could hear them). After doing some research, I noticed that when i pressed the volume buttons it was saying "headphones" instead of "ringer". I found out that there was lint in my headphone jack, which solved all of my issues. I took it all out and it worked! Completely fixed.

Feb 7, 2014 6:47 AM in response to KoloheBooby DRU66,This happens on an iPhone 4 taht we have. It only happened after upgrading to iOS7 and, for whatever reason, when we removed the Otterbox Defender the phone worked like normal. The Otterbox folks have been great about trying to help address this, but it seems to be the shell or film and some setting or sensitivity in that iPhone under iOS7. Very frustrating. I put the same case/cover on another iPhone 4 also running iOS7 and no problems yet. Tried all the cleaning and resetting advice, but simply removing the case was the only thing that worked. Someting odd about that combination of that phone, that OS and that case. (It does not happen with the smaller Speck case.) Next experiment to remove the film on the Defender -- though that is not recommended by Otterbox. Any ideas from any developers about anything that changed in iOS7 about sesnitivity of the noice cancelling mic or the proximity sensor? Any setting (other than Bluetooth) to change -- already tried that.

Feb 24, 2014 10:02 AM in response to DRU66by DRU66,Appears to be the audio compiler chip from all accounts. Either poorly done in manufacturing or bumped around enough to break the solder. Skype and Memo microphone work, but not once you make a call and that second microphone is used. All the remedies for bumping, squeezing, cases (on and off) may just be making a better/worse connection, but do not solve the issue.

The iPhone4 has soldering issues so basically "securing" the circuit board is your best bet. It's safe and I fixed mine in 5 minutes flat!

Jun 5, 2016 7:07 PM in response to 4spirits1udyrby Ahart0402,There are 3 tiny buttons inside the headphone jack. They will occasionally get stuck. Get a flashlight and touch the button with a toothpick. It will fix it.
