    What is the error message?

You could look into Help viewer to see if there is a setup assistant

for going online. There usually is.

You can see what the selection settings are in System Preferences>

Network> and choose the wireless base station as a source, be

sure any password needed for access is entered into the computer,

and the AirPort (wireless) is turned on, you can choose 'automatic'

in the Location. Do not set up Ethernet, or other choices, just wi-fi.

In the Advanced box (click) when it opens, be sure to choose

'remember any network this computer has joined' and see that

    the AirPort icon is on the top of the screen, usually by the clock;

so if you click on it, a drop-down menu for AirPort appears. The

icon represents an antenna, and the more bars equals strength.

In the AirPort menu bar choices, if you don't get a connection after

the Network has been set to airport wireless, you can choose to

'Join Other Network' from the drop-down menu, to access settings.

You can enter the name of your home network and there should

be a place to enter the password.

Depending on the vintage of the computer (I think it is a MacBook

if it is really running OS X 10.6.2; iBooks can't run that) the wi-fi

frequency provided by the base station or wireless router may

be incorrect. Since I do not know what kinds of products or specs

they are running under, that is just another item to research.

Anyway, the time is very early here and I am getting tired/er.

    Good luck & happy computing!
