Q: Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.

 

 

Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

    I know many people don't agree that it is an Air Parrot issue, however I have tried EVERY suggestion on this discussion thread and have finally had success just now by following this link :  http://support.airsquirrels.com/article.php?id=8

    And in my case it was the last reference referring to 10.9 that actually did it.

    Just to clarify, Ive never had airparrot installed & having an issue. It does seem that whatever aiparrot did caused a problem, and perhaps whatever issue it highlights is also a problem in other areas. My macbook pro is around 3 weeks old. Only additional things installed - utorrent, parallels, vlc, skype.

    I'm not even sure why the focus is on AirParrot.

     

    I had AirParrot installed and everything was working.

    Updated to 10.9.2, it stopped working.

    Removed everything related to AirParrot, still not working.

     

    I'm no rocket scientist, but shouldn't the focus be on something related to 10.9.2 changes? My case alone proves that AirParrot is not the culprit.

    Problem Not Solved

     

    Issue still remains for me.  The Air Parrot removal tool and steps listed here did not fix the airplay problem.

    Removed Air Parrot, confirmed all files are gone.

    I cannot connect to my 2nd or 3rd generation Apple TV with the iMac.

    I can connect with my ipad & iPhone

     

    In case any tech support happens upon this thread.

    That doesn't prove that 10.9.2 is the culprit.  Whatever you did to remove AirParrot may not have completely undone all of the changes that AirParrot made to your Mac.

     

    I would suggest doing a clean install of 10.9.2.  I have a 2013 Macbook Air and Airplay works fine on 10.9.2.

    So, when I updated from 10.9.1 (working) to 10.9.2 (not working)... that was AirParrot causing the change?

    Joseph Rose. It's aparently clear that this is 3rd party software related and not Apple's fault to the issue. Out of everybody that has had this issue they were able to fix it by uninstalling AirParrot. If you are still having the issue (even though there's only 3 people on this post STILL having this issue) then you might have something else installed causing the problem OR you and the 3 other guys are just trying to start trouble like a obsessive Apple hater does.

    It's not 3rd party.

    I never had airparrot, and while trying to fix this problem did a fresh OS install so it’s all clean with hardly any software that is not apple.

    The update messed up the mini display port. When I bootcamp to win everything start up normally.

    When I try it with maverick my main display (apple 27 LED mini port) does not let the OS start until I disconnect it and then only my DVI display comes up.

    It is definitely this update and apple should address it right away.

    How did you install the OS? Sounds like a currupt instalation to me. Also this post is for AirPlay and not the mini display port.

    I had the issue with my AppleTV not showing screen from mac. I would select Airplay via the menu bar, and pick AppleTV. Screen would flash then go back. Nothing selected in the Aiplay menu.

     

    I installed 10.9.2 Combo.

    Then I realized my AppleTV was set to manual update. There was an update, I d/l it, and then it restarted.

     

    Guess what? I can share my screen now.

     

    Make sure you have the Combo update and your AppleTV is updated. Sorry if this doesn't work for you, but it did for me.

    Uninstalling Airparrot did not work for me. I have tried installing 10.9.2 Combo Update, restarting Apple TV, repairing permissions on my mid 2011 21,5" iMac...with no luck. I tried starting a new session with the guest user, noting to do. Do not know what to do else.

     

    I have re-installed Airparrot, that is my last solution for mirroring iMac to TV.

    Okay, so to reiterate (again):

     

    This thread is dedicated to the SYMPTOM of AirPlay Mirroring no longer functioning, specifically AFTER updating to 10.9.2. Other symptoms caused by the 10.9.2 update (such as mini displayport no longer functioning) need to have their OWN thread made.

     

    Regarding AirParrot causing the problem AFTER the update:

     

    Poster "Joseph Rose" above asked how AirParrot could cause a problem after updating. It seems this logic is being used all around to show that 10.9.2 is the cause of the problem, not AirParrot. However, what this does prove is that, yes, something in 10.9.2 is incompatible with the AirParrot kernel extensions that was not incompatible in previous versions of Mavericks.

     

    Why is this AirParrot's problem?

     

    It's AirParrot's problem because it is their job to conform to Apple's OS, not Apple's job to verify third party software will function. AirParrot needs to provide a software update in order to fix this issue and allow it to work with the latest version of Mavericks.

     

    Now, in addition to running the commands mentioned above in Terminal:

     

    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext

    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext

    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

     

    Everyone should also make sure that:

     

    1. AirParrot (if installed) is fully updated

    2. All MacOS updates have been run

    3. All AppleTV updates have been run.

     

    If this issue persists after this, can someone please try resetting PRAM and SMC?

     

    Also, if someone wants to take one for the team, can someone who is currently having the issue try installing a fresh OS, update to 10.9.2 and see if the issue persists?

    I carefully ran the 4 commands you posted.

    I have all my software up to date on my Apple TV's second gen & third gen.

    My iMac 27-inch, Late 2012 software is up to date and has the following set up:

    I reset both the PRAM & SMC as per the instructions on the links you provided.

    I also reinstalled the 10.9.2 Update from a fresh downloaded 10.9.2 Update "Combo"

     

    I can connect to both my apple TV's using my iPad Mini 2013 & iPhone 5s

    I can connect to both my apple TV's when I play movies through iTunes and use the iTunes Airplay button on my iMac.

     

    However, I still cannot Mirror nor extend my desktop through the iMac to any Apple TV.  I don't even see my mouse like others have.  Apple TV just goes dark and nothing happens.

     

    I am willing to replace my system folder through a clean install.  I have full backups using Time Machine.  I just don't want to lose any data that I might need.  Software licenses , preferences, itunes song plays, play lists etc. If I could get a comprehensive set of instructions to do so, I would be willing as long as I am confident I will not lose data.

    My problem was iScreen (third party remote desktop app - for iPad) extension. I downloaded and deleted it 2 years ago but extension was still in my library. I have deleted it and everything is fully operational now. I think, After 10.9.2 update, you should delete all 3rd party remote desktop or mirroring softwares from your mac.

    THIS DID IT!

     

    I had AirDisplay on here, left and unused from quitte some time ago. Ran an uninstaller on it, and BAM back in business. Thank you sir!

     

    Also, nanny nanny boo boo... I told y'all it wasn't AirParrot.
