I recently bought my iphone and i have the same problem my rear camera turns purple with streaks and froze. After i restart it works and after long hours of standing the same problem happens again. Can apple do anything about this problem?

Mar 2, 2014 11:28 PM in response to Mayham006by cransleben,Thank you so much! This worked for my phone too. I had tried to do a hard reset but like you said, just turn it off for 30 seconds and turn it back on and ta da...back to normal.

Mar 2, 2014 11:30 PM in response to georg007by cransleben,When you hold down the lock and home button only hold it down until the phone turns off. Do not hold it down until the apple pops up. :)

Mar 23, 2014 10:03 AM in response to Giboxby Johnnoza,Have had same problem with camera app freezing and splitting screen into 2 solid colours Apple replaced it as its a hardware issue and then 1 week later got same issue again with iphone 5 that was a replacement unit - took it back to the istore a second time where istore wanted to blame me and i said to them you replaced it and i have same problem so bloody fix it or supply a brand new device and not a refurbished one as its still under full warranty as i have only had the phone 5 months - so quite unhappy with apple at the moment so the next 2 weeks will tell what happens as where i am it takes apple 2 weeks to give phone back after repairs

Mar 24, 2014 5:17 AM in response to Giboxby AGrove26,I've got a brand new iphone, probably about a week old and I'm suffering with the same problem. Black screen on the camera and all of its apps including facetime. I have checked restrictions and they're off, I have reset all my setttings and also erased my content settings a couple of times as well but it still doesn't work.
Thinking I may have to take it back to apple again

Mar 25, 2014 10:41 AM in response to Giboxby TechtraTA,This recently happend to my iPhone 5 and i went through all of the steps indicated by Apple above and it did not do anything.
I am getting very frustraded with Apple of late and now really considering going with the new Samsung S5 when it comes out in a couple of weeks.

Apr 1, 2014 8:15 AM in response to Giboxby WtHongkong,My solution discovered completely by accident today - I turned voice over on, and then turned it off - my rear camera woke up too!

Apr 3, 2014 6:59 PM in response to WtHongkongby Barry Shell,To WtHongkong: YOUR SOLUTION WORKED! Incredible. How weird is this? Too bad Steve Jobs died. I cannot see this craziness happening if he was still alive.

Apr 6, 2014 2:06 PM in response to WtHongkongby askpearl,@WtHongkong--It worked perfectly. Turning Voiceover on and off cleared up both the sometimes non-functioning rear camera and/or the Camera app software - an easy fix and it saved me a 100 mile trip to the apple store. Thanks a million!

Apr 9, 2014 10:06 AM in response to Giboxby 2metiger,Where is the Voice Over? Mine is still not working after the other suggestions above. Thanks!
-
Apr 9, 2014 10:27 AM in response to 2metigerby askpearl,You'll find it under Settings -> General --> Accessibility. Be aware that this changes the way the phone handles touch commands.
FYI This procedure fixed the camera software for 2 days, but today it's not working again. Flipping Voiceover on and off does nothing. Seems like a software problem.
