Q: mid 2011 Mac mini won't AirDrop

I cannot get my mid 2011 Mac mini to show up on other's Macs' AirDrop windows. The other Macs (mid 2010 MacBook Pro, iMac 24") show up in the Mac mini's AirDrop window, just not vice versa. I even used a Terminal command hack but that did nothing. I even tried the old trick of sending a file to MBP first to have mini show up, but it disappears on the MBP as soon as the transfer is complete...nothing can be sent back to the mini via AirDrop before it vanishes.

The Mac mini is up-to-date (10.9.2) and is on the same wireless home network, but no show.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion, 2.26GHz, 8GB RAM

If you don't see nearby users in AirDrop

When you select AirDrop, OS X looks for other Macs that are close by and also using AirDrop. If you don't see someone in the AirDrop window:

    • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on at both computers. Although you don't have to connect to a specific network, Wi-Fi needs to be turned on to transmit and receive files wirelessly.
    • Make sure that the recipient has selected AirDrop in the Finder. If you don't see this option in the Finder, refer to the Additional Information section of this article to make sure the computer is compatible with AirDrop.
    • Try moving the computers closer to each other. AirDrop is designed to work within a range of approximately 30 feet (9 meters). If you need to send a file to someone further away, consider using File Sharing, iCloud or email instead.

Actually, the recent 10.9.2 update seems to have resolved this issue. On at least 3 separate attempts since updating the Mac mini to 10.9.2, AirDrop has worked properly on remote Macs.

Thanks anyhow for the information provided.
