Q: Synching Calendars

As referenced in this thread,https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5448950?tstart=0 I have the same problem. When I first purchased this mac 2 years ago i synched it with icloud with only the US Holidays active. Since i didn't have an iDevice at the time. I signed out of iCloud and it erased the content on my mac. This was fine as I had a backup. This calendar still exists on my iCloud.com com account.

I only use my Home calendar and since I have no copy on iCloud.com the solution in the above mentioned thread does not work for me.

Any suggestions as to getting this Home calendar to synch from my mac without the endless loop. I have a bootable clone in case of a accidental lose of data.

Thanks

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Just to clarify, you have a Home calendar stored locally on your Mac (presumably listed under On My Mac), then you try to enable Calendar syncing in System Preferences>iCloud and it gets stuck on "Moving Calendars"?

If so, why are you saying the solution posted by melosaris here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23475967#23475967%2323475967%2323475967 won't work?

I may be having a senior moment here, but by following his instructions i end up with my Home calendar On My Mac empty. It's easily restored by a copy/backup I have of my Home Calendar. Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

Perhaps an approach that would work would be to start over and restore the calendar to your Mac again, then export it by selecting it and going to File>Export>Export and save this to your desktop.  Then use melosaris' solution again to get back to an empty Home calendar in iCloud.  Then go to File>Import>Import, navigate to your exported .ics file on your desktop, click Import.  When you are prompted to indicate where to import it, choose the iCloud Home calendar as the destination and click Import.  That should import the calendar events to iCloud.

Thanks for your patience but i've tried what you have instructed ( at least I think I have) and it up in the endless loop. I'm doing something wrong in following his instructions obviously but can't quite pinpoint what i'm doing wrong. I don't question the accuracy of the instructions, obviously this is an user error!

No problem.  It could just as easily be me who isn't understanding what's going on.

What happens if you try signing completely out of your iCloud account?  Go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in.  If you then enable Calendars in System Preferences>iCloud, what happens?

News Flash! I followed your instructions and had success. Sometimes even a experienced mac user can be dense!

When all else fails, turn it off then turn it back on.

    Glad it's working now.

If you still have the saved .ics file, probably the easiest thing to do would be to delete the existing Home calendar (by control-clicking the Home calendar on your Mac and selecting Delete).  Then add back a new empty Home calendar by going to File>New Calendar>iCloud.  Then import the .ics file to this empty calendar by going to File>Import>Import, navigate to your exported .ics file, click Import.  When prompted about where to import it, choose the iCloud Home calendar as the destination and click Import.  It will import the events but it may take some time; wait until the progress wheel stops.
