And what are you trying to play it on now if it works in a MacBook Pro?
Any error messages?
Restarted the computer?
Does it appear on the desktop?
Will it play in Quicktime.
Any other information you would care to share?

Mar 4, 2014 3:42 PM in response to Limnosby lb1000,I burned a CD but then it wouldn't play. I tried a regular audio CD. It wouldn't play either.
iTunes became very slow and unresponsive.
No error message.
Didn't try quicktime.
Sometimes appeared on desktop, not always.
Restart seems to fix problem, for now

Mar 4, 2014 3:48 PM in response to lb1000by Limnos,Multiple discs. It wouldn't be surprising if your optical drive was starting to go. You can try a lens cleaning disc but there's limited success. iTunes could have slowed down because it was busy trying to re-read the disc.

Mar 4, 2014 3:53 PM in response to Limnosby lb1000,I thought that was possible so I did try the a portable superdrive from my notebook and it had the same problem.
When all else fails restart. It gives you a chance to walk away from the stupid thing if nothing else.

Mar 4, 2014 8:15 PM in response to lb1000by Limnos,★HelpfulYou will have to do carefully planned analysis. It could be everything from dust in the drive to a mechanically failing drive to an issue with your software to the computer's firmware.
One thing is I cannot recall this actually being an issue related to iTunes itself.
I know nothing about your computer. With some you can reset system management control.

Sep 3, 2014 5:41 PM in response to lb1000by Printer-Tech,I had the same issue.
Both with Apple Superdrive, and generic drives.
Tried reloading my OS - now I'm able to play audio CDs with no problem with Apple Superdrive and generic (LG) drives.
Hope this helps.
