Q: What kind of situations would cause Airprint goes into a "paused" status?

When I use Airprint on iMac with WiFi connection, sometimes after I sent down a print job, it goes into "paused" status. Does anyone know what would cause the "paused" status?

BTW, the "paused" status would be resumed if click the "resume" button on Airprint.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

There are many possible reasons, including the printer running out of paper, or having a paper jam.

Hi sberman, thanks for your reply. But I'm sure it's not caused by paper issues. Becase if I click "resume" button on Airprint, it could run again. BTW, I've also captured the printer FW log, it says Airprint didn't send out the CreateJobOperation request. So it's not a printer mechanic issue.

I'm thinking about there might be a logic hole in the communication between Airprint and printer wifi firmware. So I'd like to know, from Airprint view, what kind of issues could cause Airprint iteself go into "paused" status.

See the "If you are unable to print ..." section starting at the bottom of the HT4356 article you attached above, including the two notes just below that section.

Things like the printer not being seen on the WiFi, WiFi hiccups, etc. may cause the issue.  You could always try rebooting your router.  Generally that requires keeping router power off for at least 30 seconds.

I couldn't find "If you are unable to print..." section. Where is it?

I think the root cause is in the communication between Airprint and printer firmware via wifi. But my WiFi router works fine all the time. And this issue only happens twice among 100 times. So I really wants to know how Airprint logic works when it decides to go to "paused".

"If you are unable to print ..." is near the bottom under "Additional Information."

"starting at the bottom of the HT4356 article you attached above" -> It seems there is another link to HT4356 article? This is the first time I use apple support community, I though the HT4356 article is our discussion list. Where could I go to the page that has "Additional Information" and "If you are unable to print..." sections?

And what I really want is Airprint specification from Apple. Do you know where to find it?

Oh, you're talking about the Airprint Basics for users. I've seen the notes there. Thanks.

But my issue is not always happen. Maybe 1% of failure? So I'm searching for Airprint spec for developers. So that I could change my printer FW behavior or just find a logical hole inside apple airprint app.

I've searched a lot but couldn't find it. I think apple keeps it as a secret currently. Anyway, thanks for your help!
