Q: Airplay mirroring broke in 10.9.2

i just updated to 10.9.2 and now when i try and airplay mirror to my Apple TV, it sends the audio but just shows a black screen and i can't drag anything to it. It doesn't show any of the options for external displays in the displays section of System Preferences.

Any ideas? i tried reapplying the combo update with no luck

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

I was dealing with the same problem on my new iMac. I uploaded the new 10.9.2 and my airplay just would have sound and no picture. Before I even knew about airplay, I was using airparrot, then it just sat on my computer for months. I went through applecare and they found that files from airparrot were blocking airplay. I deleted airparrot from my mac and also found a link that gave me a "how to" delete the remaining hidden files. Ran it through Terminal, then rebooted my mac. My airplay now works once again. Hope this helps. \m/

I loved all the help you have been offering, MikeT3Com. I have been chasing this issue since December and have tried  to isolate the cause (in my case).

    - I removed AirParrot (which wasn't added until AFTER the problem occurred), Air Display, DisplayPad and Wyse PocketCloud. (To uninstall, I made every attempt to use uninstallers as a first option, CleanApp as plan B and the Terminal if I had to.)

    - I tried using a clean admin user account (still will not work), restarted about 50 times and moved everything but com.apple LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons: still will not mirror.

    - I tried to reinstall the OS: still will not work

I am sure there is a 3rd party extension somewhere causing this but I am at a loss as to the next step. Clean install? YUCK!

I tried AirParrot on my system late last year before buying it for my wife's older Macbook. Without an uninstaller, dragging the app to the trash didn't clean the klingons. As noted by others; APExtFramebuffer.kext in /system/library/Extensions was my daemon. (Bad pun?) I had thought to remove it using sudo in the terminal but it was still in the folder. A manual "drag and drop" into the trash and reboot seems to have fixed the issue here.

Now to re-authorize all my apps on the AppleTV. <grrr> This has been a real pain.

I reported it to AirSquirrels. I'm sure they didn't think people would use AirParrot on systems capable of Airplay Display but, as this thread shows, there are a few of us out here.

I also had no picture through AirPlay after latest update. Uninstalled Air Display app. Airplay mirroring works fine now.

I don't use AirParrot but uninstalling “Air Display” solved my issue.

    Angelele,

Q1-Did you create a new admin user and see if your Airplay would work from there?

Q2-This looks to be your /Library/Extension folder. If the new user created in Q1 cannot use Airplay, look for /System/Library/Extensions (different location) and upload a listing of those extension. My problem was with APExtFramebuffer.kext

I tried with a guest account and it did not work, is that enough or should I creat a new administrator account? if then, can I erase that account easily when I finish the test?

Skip to Q2 and look for the /System/Library/Extension folder. I should ask; is it Airplay Display what is failing or just all Airplay related features?

Yeah! It started to work...sincerely I do not why. The last thing I did was start the iSight Camera with PhotoBoth. AirParrot support told me that the issues on 10.9.2 were involving to the camera too, i just turned on to verify mine was working. Then I started Airplay mirroring and...it is solved :S

Removing AirDisplay fixed it for me. I had air parrot also but it still didn't work after the airparrot uninstall. Removing airdisplay also got it working again for me. I hadn't used it in years and Migration assitant must have brough it over to the iMac.

I am using iMac 27" purchased in March 2013 and cannot use AppleTV mirroring since the 10.9.2 update. I am experiencing the same symptoms as other users.

I never used AirParrot. I checked the Extensions folder and cannot find the extensions file "APExtFramebuffer" mentioned by other users in this forum.

My iPhone mirroring to Apple TV works fine.

I have ensured the AppleTV has the latest update. I have also restored to factory settings and tried. Doesn't work.

I think it is certainly an issue with the 10.9.2 update on my iMac.
