Q: How can I save a Word document as a PDF whilst retaining hyperlinks?

I know that Word can't do it (not on Mac anyway).

What other software (ideally free) can do it though?

Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac, iOS 7.0.4

Won't work for me... I've never been able to get it to work with OS X.

    Works in OpenOffice!

But I can't - have to work in Word... may help out the OP, though.

Still can't get it working in Word for Mac, though.

I was offering it for the OP (who asked for a free solution)

Word for Mac is hopeless (as you have found out) so unfortunately you're stuck with Word for Windows.

Just tested it again with acrobat pro 11 and latest Word for Mac

Web links are present in the PDF

Doesn't work here, Reader 11 and Word 2011, no functional links.

Seems as if that's happening a lot - which is why I'm breaking down and buying a Windows machine. I have so much invested in my Mac but I just don't like the direction that Apple is headed with their hardware. I just won't abide a completely closed system. I'm this >< close to finishing configuring a Sager. I hate to do it but it will do everything I want and need. I'm not giving up my Mac, though - just augmenting my computer systems!

I have a similar issue with Excel, the Mac version is crippled so I use the Windows version. I bought a PC laptop, installed Excel and RDC on it and just use it remotely in a remote session from my Mac. That way I get to leave it in the cupboard behind my desk

MS have never produced software for a Mac that equals the functionality of the Windows versions unfortunately.

I don't know why it's working here and not for you or the OP or Clinton.

I swear I'm staring at the links in Acrobat Pro XI ,   but that's no surprise considering its Word, which has always had many glitches in every version Ive ever owned.

Your open office idea is great,   Good idea.

Word has a mind of its own at times.

I don't have Acrobat Pro, I use Preview or Adobe Reader, so it's not an exact match.

Paying for Acrobat simply to preserve an existing link reminds me again how poor Office for Mac really is.

And as I use a PC for Excel I also use NitroPDF on it for when I need PDF power.

I prefer Libre Office, but there is little to choose between the two.

word for PC or word for Mac,   I've never seen a single version for either that wasn't crawling with some bugs.

    Agreed.

I need Acrobat pro for creating pdf portfolios and other things.

There is no comparison, Word for Windows works, and offers functionality far above that of the Mac version.

Nitro is so superior to Acrobat that choosing it is a no brainer, but sadly there is no Mac version.

What's the full name? PDF Nitro? Javascripting, etc? I've been working with Acrobat/Livecycle so long that I've not looked at alternatives... I'll Google it and see if they have a demo version or something...

Nitro PDF, 2 versions, Free or Pro (the free version lacks many of Acrobat's features, but offers more than Reader) Pro is the full Circus.

There is a demo of both I believe.

    Here's a link.

    @Csound1,

Just downloaded and installed it - it does look like a good alternative to Reader, but doesn't have Javascripting and some other must-have features as AcroPro. I'll ask my AcroPals about it - want to make CERTAIN that it doesn't screw up forms like Preview!
