Q: One machine doesn't recognise the other
I want to migrate data from my MBP to an iMac using ethernet cable but neither machine recgnises the other. MBP is running Mavericks and iMac is running Mount Lion. What can I try?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi Ralph, Thanks for that. I eventually found my way though to the iMac Directory Editor and re- structured some of the information in there, then re-checked the server connections, all OK, but still no go. Then I removed the firewall and re-checked, still no go - then I removed the apple ID from the users in preferences on both machines and hey presto, it linked. V. Strange. Then with file sharing as I could read the files from the MBP on the iMac I copied many of them. So Some of my problem is solved. I am now about to look at using a flash drive to copy over some of the software I have downloaded direct so hopefully I can get it all done. Frustrating that the Migration Assistant didn't seem to want to help at all so I must have missed some small but salient point in its use. Anyway, bulk of my problem is now solved and thanks again for your help.
