Q: Help! Macbook pro isn't finding apple tv

New Macbook pro retina and 3rd gen apple tv. macbook randomly will sync to apple tv via airplay, my macbook isnt finding the apple tv. not using mavericks yet but all else is up to date and all on same network. why is my macbook not mirroring apple tv?

Apple TV, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Mirroring requires OSX 10.8 or higher.

In addition to what diesel vdub has already stated, AirPlay Mirroring is only compatible with MacBooks 2011 or later.
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
