Mar 11, 2014 10:19 AM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,Can I have the SMTP settings as well? (But the Imap settings are correct as far as I can see) you left out SSL status and ports in use.
Let's do this again.
Take a screenshot of the Imap (incoming) and the SMTP (outgoing) settings in full. Please obscure any personal information that appears. Post the screenshot here.

Mar 11, 2014 10:47 AM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,If you click on the little box (in the first picture) labelled 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)' it will reveal a menu, choose 'Edit SMTP Server List' and a dialog will open, 2 pages containing the SMTP server settings. Post both pages please.

Mar 11, 2014 11:17 AM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,Well, on the back of those settings and the Connection Doctor report your account is working normally, but clearly it isn't. Can you verify that it is correctly set on any other devices and also, when one client (Mac) says a piece of mail is read and another says that it is not, which one does the GMail website agree with?

Mar 11, 2014 11:35 AM in response to Csound1by chrisreilly,The Web site always agrees with the fact that a client (Gmail iOS app, iOS Mail, or Mail.app) has marked a message as read, archived, or deleted. Mail.app, however, never reflects the new status of messages it's received and that are in the inbox and that have been dealt with elsewhere unless the message has been deleted in another client or on the Web site. New messages do come into Mail.app, but old e-mail messages that have been archived or read anywhere but Mail.app remain in the inbox and marked unread. All clients and gmail.com are in sync except Mail.app.

Delete the account from Internet Accounts, check that it has been fully removed from Mail as well.
reboot
In Internet Accounts use the automatic account setup and put the Gmail account back.

Mar 11, 2014 1:12 PM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,What happens if you synchronize manually, does it work then?
-
Mar 11, 2014 1:58 PM in response to Csound1by chrisreilly,Nothing syncs it except quitting and reopening.
