Mar 12, 2014 7:20 AM in response to Csound1by chrisreilly,How could there be no solution to this anywhere from anyone? I realize Gmail employs a nonstandard IMAP variant, but how could something as simple as keeping a synced inbox be so problematic. It's a protocol that dates back 20-30 years. And why does none of Apple's many fixes fix nothing?

Mar 12, 2014 7:38 AM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,Gmail works perfectly for many (me included) this is not a general issue, which makes it harder to fix as your machine is part of the issue. If it was systemwide we would all have the problem.
Do you have any 3rd party A/V software installed.

Mar 12, 2014 7:42 AM in response to Csound1by Doug Lerner2,Even Apple admits there are problems, which is why they keep trying to create fixes for the app they broke (it worked just fine before Mavericks - I used it for years). Their current recommended solution is frequent quitting and restarting the program.
Obviously there is a problem.
The few people for whom Gmail in Mail seems to be working just fine seem to say they are not doing things like creating labels, etc.

I see we still we disagree

And I assume that a smart, organized guy like you you can substantiate 'few'
Then we'll move on to other issues.

Mar 12, 2014 8:37 AM in response to chrisreillyby Csound1,Remove it completely and test again (Sophos is not usually one that causes issues but A/V software can, so this is just a test)

Mar 12, 2014 12:28 PM in response to Csound1by chrisreilly,Sadly, it doesn't work. Removed Sophos, rebooted, tested. No syncing. Thank you for your attempt to help. In Gmail's settings, I have limited IMAP folders to contain no more than 2,000 messages. In Mail.app, the All Mail folder contains 2,000 messages, but the Sent folder contains only 1,000. Probably has nothing to do with the inbox syncing issue, though. That said, I'm no closer to resolving this than I was in October 2013. I guess we'll have to wait until the release of OS X 11?

That worked for me too. For about two weeks.

Mar 23, 2014 4:53 AM in response to chrisreillyby imagician,Yes, this has been frustrating and painful.
I had Mail crashed and impossible to rebuild. About 300k messages and 30G of data
Only answer has been to focus on the IMAP settings in Gmail (the Mail Preferences settings seem much less critical).
and
Label settings did not seem to impact me much. But the 10,000 limit on IMAP folders was the big one. Everything started to work again after that.
Of course I lost a lot of mail history in Gmail but had it backed up on local HD so not disastrous.
After a few weeks of stable operation I will reset IMAP folder limit to Unlimited until I it looks like the problem is re-emerging.

Where did you find an Undelete button?
This is the available button screen and I do not see one for Undelete.
Have you installed any 3rd party 'utilities' in Mail?

Mar 25, 2014 3:08 PM in response to Csound1by Howard Brazee,I just went to her computer. She has her icons labeled, but when I look at something in her trash folder, it's just like mine - it says "delete". She never purposefully adds anything to her mail app nor any other app.
I have no idea where the undelete icon came from, but I've seen it twice in the in box while the delete icon was in her trash. Restarting Mail resolved it.

Please take a screenshot of the icon and post it here.

Mar 25, 2014 3:20 PM in response to Csound1by Howard Brazee,Next time it happens. It happened two days ago, and it happened a couple of months ago. It might have been the same icon with a different label. I didn't pay that much attention.
