Q: How can I completely gray out the Passcode Lock on the iPad for a School District with over 150 iPads?

I work in a K-12 school district where I manage 150+ iPads. My issue is that the students are now locking the devices with a passcode in which, correct me if I am wrong, in order to take off the passcode is to either enter the passcord and disable it or complete restore the iPad. Is there anyway to grey out the Passcode lock function from the settings so that the user can't enable or disable it?

You will have to Enroll for Mobile Device Management Services and you will be able to Disable the Passcode Lock option on iOS Device.

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/business/it/management.html

Read the Device Enrolment Program Guide Carefully from the above link.

    Deploying Devices

You can assign profiles to devices and additional settings, policies,

    and restrictions from your organization’s

physical MDM server. These features can provide increased control and device functionality.

Here are additional features you can manage:

    Device supervision

    Mandatory configuration

    Lockable MDM settings

    Setup screens

Setup Assistant screens that can be skipped include:

    -

    Passcode

. Hides and disables the passcode pane

    .

    -

    Location.

    Does not enable Location Services

    .

    -

    Restore from backup.

    Disables restoring from backup

    .

    -

    Apple ID.

Does not allow you to sign in with an Apple ID

    .

    -

    Terms of Service.

    Skips the Terms of Service

    .

    -

    Siri.

    Disables Siri

    .

    -

    Sending diagnostics.

    Disables automatically sending diagnostic information.

Please consult your MDM vendor’s documentation for the specific implementation of these features.

Once you’ve set your configuration information, devices will be automatically enrolled into MDM when

they go through the Setup Assistant. After each user has completed the Setup Assistant, the device is

automatically enrolled in MDM and configured with the settings and services you’ve specified.

I am actually using Profile manager and a 3rd party called Air Watch. But I can not find the settings to disable passcode lock.

I believe that's only possible if your devices are on iOS 7.1 where the Passcode Lock is now a separate preference, and it will probably require an update to Air Watch to support those new features.
