Q: Are earlier versions of apps available for download ?

Now that iPad 1 is headed for obsolescense, is there a way to download/find earlier versions of apps ? If not, is there an app available on any platform, that can replace iBooks ? I need iBooks for the iPad User's Guide (let's say I'm selling my iPad, o.k.?).

It depends upon the developer, some allow you to download older compatible versions of their apps from the store on a device.

iBooks you can download an earlier version (or you should be able to anyway). If the iBooks app isn't currently in your purchase history then download the current version on your computer's iTunes so that it is, and then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and you should be able to download an older compatible version of it.

For free apps you can try the same thing, but for paid-for apps its probably best to contact the developer first and see if that will work for their app.

Thank you King. I went to the app store and downloaded iBooks, and, as advertised, was offered the most recently compatible version for download. I appreciate your advice. Now, off to find that x$@#*<! user's Guide.

This a link for the iPad iOS 5.1 manual :

    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_ios5_user_guide.pdf

You should be able to use 'open in' to copy it from Safari into the iBooks app
