Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

"Same problem with Elion carrier in Estonia."

Did you mean EMT? Elion is not GSM carrier.

You have to talk with your provider to see if this is covered in the contract with them !!!!

It's included in the contract and you can still use this service with every smartphone buy not with an iphone with ios7.1 because you can't set the iphone as the carrier ask you to.

I read this is a problem well known in beta releases of ios7.1, I don't think they are stupid, I think this is a feature: they want to "support" they partners (carriers) maybe because these "friends" carriers paid to be supported...

If Apple want ti do so, it's ok but they have to tell that before. STOP selling iphones without a contract! F##k!

Pepephone is particularly funny, it can or not, depending on nobody knows what, show their name "Pepephone" at the top of the iPhone screens.  The reason for this differences is a great unknown for me.  But, the worst thing now is this one, iOS 7.1 doesnt retain the APN info.

Unfortunately some of us do not have, want, or need contracts at all.

Wrong, you first must have confirmed that you have the possibility in your providers contract (data), then they tell you what to set.

If you have any problems, do the "standard" reset first: hold the Power and Home buttons at the same time, keep holding, when you see the white apple logo appear, let go.

I am at aloss now: what do you mean selling iPhones without contract? An iPhone is a phone, if you want to use it you must have a contract with a provider and a sim card. Apple is not selling these contracts, the provider does and often sells the phone also, most of the time cheaper than Apple: this sponsoring they recover multiple times by the contract costs, and they lock the iPhone to their sim card.

    I mean... we have carriers A, B and C.

A and B are in Apple partners list so you can use the hotspot (if you have a contract and an internet plan with this option).

C is not on this list, so with ios7.1 you are out... It's ok, it's a business choice made by Apple... BUT Apple need to sells iphones only with contract with A or B ***OR*** Apple need to write on the box "if you have C you can't use hotspot function".

Otherwise it's a fraud, they tell that iphone have an hotspot function. It ***had***, now with ios7.1 this function is gone (iphone in some circumstances have an hotspot function).

Apple want to eliminate this function for some users (who have carrier C)? Ok, tell them before upgrade, write down CLEAR "if you have carrier C DO NOT UPGRADE".

    Otherwise it's a fraud.
