Q: location based reminders not working iOS 7

Has anyone else had trouble using location based reminders since making the upgrade to 7?  I have location services engaged for the Reminders app.  I have told Siri to set a reminder when I get to work.  I have set my work location in the phone.  Well every time I set the reminder, it says it will remind me when I get to work or by 9am.  Well I never get a reminder when I get to work, only at 9am will something pop up.  Very frustrating.

I've done everything suggested in this thread.  The ONE thing that worked was to leave the app open (with the background app functionality turned on) and I started getting reminders.  This is definitely different from iOS6.

I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 7.0.4

    I had the same problem.

Try going to contacts then select the contact you need your reminder for

Hit edit, scroll down to address,

And to the left you'll see (highlighted in blue)

"Home" click that & change that to "other" or "work".

    That fixed my trouble.

An apple tech guy gave me  a great idea.  He said the use apple Automater app on your computer to keep sending apple feedback regarding the bug untill they fix it.    You can program to send it once a day ( you can program it to do more frequently but lets not be abnoxious lol).  Just think the attention it will get if several people set it up for a daily feedback report,  apple may get the point.

I believe he Automater is automactially installed in every Mac OS  its in the Apps folder.

Here is the feedback link   http://www.apple.com/feedback/   report a bug in the OS

If you don't do the Automater at least send a feedback report.  Let apple know HEY fix it.

I am let down by this I really use that feature alot..  Please fix apple..

I have tried also all the suggestions but none have worked for me. Could it be that this function does not work or is not supported in my country? I am living in estonia,

I too have been having this same annoying issue.  I submitted the bug to Apple so let's hope they fix it sooner than later.  I used this ALL THE TIME!!

I have tried every suggestion I can find, both here in the support forums and elsewhere online.  I have yet to find one person for whom this works in iOS 7.  It "would" be one of the most beneficial components of Reminders...IF it worked.

Do you have EXCHANGE enabled on your device?

@markthrice: if you're referring to Exchange email...I don't use Exchange, but you have to use the Exchange email configuration option to setup Gmail with Push on an iPhone.  I would venture a guess there are countless millions of iPhone users setup this way.

I have a question as I've read through this thread and didn't see it answered.

Of course I'm having the same issues with Reminder and I want it back because I use it a lot for my job. I tried the "reset locations" suggestion and on my mac at home it asked if Reminders could use my location (as well as on my iphone again). This did not work for me, but I'm wondering if setting the Reminder app on mac to use my location has screwed up the app on my phone.

In otherwords, does allowing the Reminder app on my MAC use my location prevent the Reminer app on my IPHONE from finding my actual location????

    Does that make sense??

    Thanks

@Bulkatron: I see absolutely no way your Mac, my Mac, or anyone else's Mac could have anything to do with this.  Look at the number of people with an iPhone who don't even own a Mac...it's not working for them, either.  It's a non-functional feature in iOS 7 that simply doesn't work.

    Larry -

Thanks. Knew it was a long shot. Didn't know that if both Mac and iPhone were connected through the cloud and the Mac reminder app asks for location that maybe it was basing your iPhone location on the mac's..

It just ***** that a great function no longer works and no fix has been issued.

One step closer to a samsung...

Well, as many times as I've threatened to move to an Android, I've considered the consequenses and came back to my senses :-)  If you don't live in a 100% Apple ecosystem, perhaps you'd be happy, but I recently spent a couple of hours at the VZW store playing around with the latest and even the guy helping me, encouraged me to keep my 5S.  Further, I don't think there's a better mobile phone camera on the planet than the 5S...not to mention I don't have to carry a purse just to haul around the Galaxy LOL.  But I agree...it MUST be fixed.

" Background App Refresh needs to be on for Reminders for location-based reminders to fire."

This WORKED!!!  Thanks!  Thinking back, I had just turned background app refresh off when they stopped working.  Duh!

It was a bug. In iOS 7.1 Apple fixed the location based Reminders. Users no longer need to have the Reminders app running in the background for location based reminders to fire off.
