I am looking for an adapter for CompactFlash card to iPad Air. Does one exist? Are people using other means to view images from their SLR cameras? I have seen mixed reviews about compatibility and I am unsure whether they are referring to iOS issues or hardware.

Get one from Amazon or Radio shack.
Cheaper than the Apple item, approx $15 , and for that price you get a 5 or 8 type card reader that will take all formats of card, USB etc. And then you can still use it if you change camera (eg to SD card type).
Just search Amazon for IPad Air Card Reader Compact Flash to be sure you get one that includes the relatively rare compact flash card.
I have one of these card readers and it works great. Also can transfer photos, movies etc to my IPad Air too.
