Q: why can i turn my iphone 5 off when the screen is locked?

Does this not then render 'find my iphone' useless?

No, You can alway turn the iPhone totally off.
The thief still cannot wipe or turn Find My iPhone off without your Apple ID & password.

Yes it does. I recently read a post about this here regarding why this was unlikely to be changed though. I will try to find it.

Yes, Off is Off.
There are many ways to defeat FMiP, but then FMiP is not meant to prevent theft. The thief will not be able to use it, thanks all.
