Q: I can't find the serial number of my ipod classic. It won't connect to my PC so that is part of the issue and its not on the back

I own an Ipod Classic. When it is plugged into a docking station or plugged into a socket it works. When it is first plugged in I get the apple and then the menu appears. When I unplug it or remove it from the docking station it does not show a display or work. When I plug it into the computer via USB the screen just flickers. Is this just the age of the battery? Could it be that the battery has become disconnected. If it is the battery how much do apple charge to replace? Are there alternatives in the UK?

It might be the battery, it sure sounds as though it could be. What happens if you leave it to charge, does the charging symbol show, does the battery icon show full, part full or empty at any time?

If you check here; https://locate.apple.com/uk/en/  and enter your postcode in the Service box, you should see the options available to you from Apple and its Authorised Service Providers. They can advise you about the battery and you should be given the cost before you commit to spending your dosh!

Not sure about your need for serial number.  However, fyi, you can also obtain it from ipod.  Pick settings on main menu, then about, then two right clicks.  Should be at a screen that shows serial number, model, version.
