Mar 18, 2014 7:28 AM in response to Arthur Busbeyby King_Penguin,It's built-in to Mavericks, so it won't show in the Mac App Store as an app for downloading nor in your list of purchases. In iBooks if you do iBooks > About iBooks that shows it as still being version 1 ? If it does then does clicking the Apple icon top left and selecting Software Update find any updates for your Mac ?

Mar 18, 2014 10:10 AM in response to King_Penguinby Arthur Busbey,It shows up as 1.0 and does not show up in the updates, which is what I tried to say in the first note. How can I update if it isn't the current version and doesn't show up in the updates?

Mar 18, 2014 11:44 AM in response to Arthur Busbeyby King_Penguin,It should show in the Updates tab if there is an update available for it, as far as I can see the update wasn't limited to just some Macs : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5326
You are signed in the same account that you downloaded Mavericks, and does the Store > Check For Unfinished Downloads menu option find it ?
It's not available as a stand-alone download from Apple (not that I've found anyway), as far as I know it can only be updated via the Updates tab in the Mac App Store, or by OS X updates. I'll keep looking, but if anybody else knows what the problem is or how to download an update if its not showing in Updates then they'll hopefully reply.

Mar 18, 2014 11:00 PM in response to King_Penguinby Arthur Busbey,Yes, signed into the same account (only one I have). It doesn't show up as an unfinished download nor does it show up when I ask for a softwareupdate list in the terminal mode.

Mar 18, 2014 11:02 PM in response to King_Penguinby Arthur Busbey,Spotlight indexing is not disabled on the boot volume, so that isn't it either. I appreciate the suggestions but it is starting to look like it is something deep in the OS that isn't working and may have to reinstall Mavericks from the recovery partition.

Mar 19, 2014 8:04 AM in response to Arthur Busbeyby Arthur Busbey,I reinstalled Mavericks using the recovery partition method but iBooks is still at version 1.0 and doesn't show up for software update. So I guess I will just have to use version 1.0 in perpetuity??
