Q: Apple TV (3rd Gen) Pairing issue

I have long since lost the original Apple TV remote that came in the box and finally got around to buying a new one. I attempted to read the instructions, but the instructions aren't clear or easy to read- everything is made short and sweet but doesn't provide the key points I need. How do I pair the new remote to the Apple TV when it's off and there is no access to the original remote?

Someone help.

It should pair automatically, have you tried using the remote?

Otherwise, to pair a remote you hold down menu and the right arrow for 6 seconds.

That is literally what the instructions said and it isn't doing jack squat... I don't have the gas money to get to an apple store to have someone there work on it themselves. I wish there was something as symple as the "Sync" button but, everyone has to make it more complicated, don't they?

Need I remind you the Apple TV it's self isn't even on- there's no way to turn it on without the remote.

There shouldn't be anything complicated about it. The Apple TV is in sleep mode, the only way to have it completely off is to unplug it.

If it isn't picking up the signal on its on and the pairing process isn't working then something else is going on, which would require an Apple tech.

it was in fact unplugged for storage, so it collected some dust in a drawer... I suppose i would have to find a way to an apple store then, huh?

The only other thing I could think of would be to connect to iTunes and restore. Then it may help with the remote or if you have a bluetooth keyboard you could use that upon startup.

However, that would require a micro usb cable. So if you didn't have one lying around it would be best to just go to Apple.

If you have an iphone or iPad you can download the Apple TV remote app from the App Store. Use the app to turn on the Apple TV. Once you get it turned on go to -settings-remotes-unpair remote.  Then click" pair remote" and hold down the right and menu button at the same time for 6 seconds and done.

The remote app requires home sharing to be enabled and both to be on the same network.
