Q: Since updating, my Apple Remote Desktop 3.7 is not working properly.

Since updating to 3.7, my Apple Remote Desktop Admin is not working properly.

Prior to the update, everthing was working correctly.

Since the update, workstations are not showing up in the Scanner, some workstations are flickering between Available & Offline, others are showing as Access Denied.   I have updated all of the clients to the appropriate ARD clients.

What is going on with this version?

I do pretty much the same things w/o Munki so you could say I've got everything you have along with the Munki part in the templates, so it's easily the most precious data in my computer. I totally understand you are worried the distribution breaks because It's a hazzle to recover if the preference file gets broken. Having to address that must be a pain.

I'm self employed so I can rely on the old history of the time machine and don't care much if they change it as long as I can manage my templates in ARD ;-)

Though, it would be nice with a more sofisticated "edit template window". A plain "Save" to update a template is a real blunder as is the lack of managing subfolders. The tiny window which doesn't scale is also really annoying. My list of templates is so long but I don't have the energy to manage them in subfolders as I constantly improve them. I'd do it if I could update them easily. Nice to see you did that. When I work with teams I often put the scripts I use on a wiki.

I just tried to write a review for ARD on the App Store.   Unfortunately, since I did not originally buy it there, it will not allow me to include my review of the current product.

Since Apple appears to be dragging their heals on getting a fix for 3.7.1, I would like to ask all of those here who did buy the ARD off the App Store to write a review on the current product and then give it an "appropriate" star rating.

Maybe if a bunch of reviews of the current product become public, it might give Apple a little more incentive to fix the problems.

    Just a thought.

Filing bug reports would be more effective I'd think

As of 1:42 CT, I have an update from the Mac App Store updaing ARD to 3.7.2.  I have original optical media installers for my Macs.  I have updated two iMacs to 3.7.2, but it appears there is no client update.

Apple was kind enough to remove my post. Looks like the update is now in the mac app store.

This sounds great, but has it actually fixed anything? Anybody try it yet?

I'd second that too, first day but its been super steady. Perfectly list computers even if they chime in via VPN. Looks so good I'm thinking of stepping up to 3.7 later this week in my service computer.

    Knock on wood!

I have to say 3.7.2 works a lot better than 3.7.1

There is however a huge bug I'm having and I simply don't know what to do anymore:

Everytime I toggle between "All Computers" "Scanner" and "All Computers", a number of my computers disappear! I cannot see any pattern in these disappering computers, neither is the number the same everytime. Sometimes 8, sometimes 10, I guess it has to do with the current status.

If I restart ARD, I have the full list once again, until I click "Scanner" and toggle back to "All Computers".

    What I'm most interested in:

How do I (completely) uninstall ARD, and I mean COMPLETELY with every bit of data.

I wrote a shellscript which is supposed to delete everything, but eitherway, after reinstalling from CD and updating, all my previous computers and task-history reappear.

is there anything missing in this list?

    Any help is highly appreciated!

I might have solved this problem

I recommand searching in Terminal within your homefolder with this command:

    find Library/ -name '*[rR]emote[dD]esktop*'

for some reason, I had a lot of preference files in /Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop/Data/Library/Preferences

After deleting this and the rest (script) and reinstalling and upgrading, everthing seems to work fine now.

    Maybe someone finds this useful.

Good to see you've already sorted your issue, but if anything else comes up, try deleting ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop. Usually clears any problems up for me.

Be sure to backup any computer lists you have if they're valuable to you

Is anyone still having problems with the "Share Screen" option? I lost that with this update last November and it is still not functional.

I use to be able to share my screen with my 32 iMacs in my classroom, but now it only allows one.

Is there an 3.7.2 ARD update for clients?
