Q: Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    iCloud mail is working now.

Both Gmail accounts should be deleted and re-entered correctly. Please name the SMTP servers to match the accont (Gmail1 or 2) at the moment there is no way of knowing whether you are using the correct server for each account, they are both called Gmail.

Additionally, when you change any settings with an email account, you should, at minimum, Quit the Mail application and reopen it. Otherwise, the previous incorrect settings may still be in use.

I tried everything you wrote (delete all gmail account reboot and reinstall gmail) ... still the same problem ... in any case, thank you. (Remember to you all that Airmail work perfectly and I don't have any problem with any programs)

Lucamena, I know people are trying to help, but look, this issue is only going to get resolved by Apple. I too wish it was already resolved, but it's not, so just wait. None of the "solutions" on this forum work, and unhelpful people who tell you it's your fault and it works just fine on their system, well, ignore them.

I am one of thos "WE" people that since upgrading to Mavericks, Mac Mail simply does not work. So quit trying to sound like the great Wizard, listen to the many problems that Mavericks has launched, and quit trying to make the guy look like an idiot because his doesn't work. He has a legitimate problem, just like thousands of others where Mac Mail quit working with Mavericks.

I finally quit using Mac Mail as it is now a broken wing as far as I am concerned. I just started using Gmail directly.

This is what I advise after spending 4 weeks trying to get it to work on my Mac. It is an Apple problem, and they need to face up to it and fix it.

It will not sync Gmail's inbox. Nothing that's apparent will make it work. MailMate syncs perfectly but it presents different problems/anomalies.

I have the same issue. Hoping following this will lead to an answer. But that is hope. I know that an update is the only thing that is going to fix this. Wars betrween Google and Apple? Backroom programmers laying down?

I'm not looking for an answer inline, btw. I think the way this has gone, no correct answer from arandom user will be posted. Clearly some great user brains have deduced it is Apple's issue.  I'm looking for a link to an Apple page on how to correct it, in lieu of an update fix.

Airmail's help section says that such difficulties result from differences between Gmail's server's database and the one in Airmail's cache.  They suggest you rebuild the cache.  For each account, go to Preferences/Accounts/More and click on "rebuild database."   That should fix the problem.

Also, I understand the App Store's version of Airmail is due for an update in a couple of weeks.  The current beta apparently will be the basis for the update, and I understand the cache-difference issue is addressed in the beta. All I know for sure is that I've been using the beta for the last couple of days and it's fast and pretty bug-free; also has some nice new features.

Gmail is a very non standard email system, problems with it often exist in all clients.

Try Mailplane (it only handles Gmail) or switch to a more conventional Imap system.

    Hello,

So, Mail with Gmail worked fine for me until 3 days ago. Since Tuesday, Mail just show an infinite wheel when I try to upload my gmail emails (Note that Mail works fine if I desactivate the account).

Now, here is something strange (maybe an hint)...

When I desactivate gmail, open Mail, and go to my gmail preferences, the user name is set to firstname.lastname. This should not be the case, it should be firstname.lastname@gmail.com

So I correct it to firstname.lastname@gmail.com, and I click on "activate the account". Immediatly after, the user name switch back to firstname.lastname, and I got the infinite wheel...

    Is it correlated ?

I have been able to get Apple Mail and Gmail to sync with everything but the Sent folder on my Mac. For example, on my PC (Windows 7), my iPad3, and my iPhone 5, they all show, in the Windows Live Mail of the PC, and the Apple Mail of the iPad and iPhone the Sent folder with 7 messages, whereas the Sent folder on the Mac shows only 3. I've tried, on the Mac to Mailbox/Synchronize with no success. All of the other mailboxes  (Inbox, Trash, All Mail) on all computers, including the Mac, show the same messages, except for the Sent mailbox on the Mac. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors, Is 'Store Sent Messages on Server' checked or unchecked.
