Q: STUCK IN GUIDED ACCESS ON IPAD. TRIPLE-CLICKING AND FORCER REBOOTS DON'T WORK, THE IPAD JUST UNLOCKS ITSELF AND GOES BACK TO THE APP I WAS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stuck in Guided Access on iPad. iOS 7!

- Triple-clicking won't work, the Accessibility Options pop-up and I tap Guided Access, it unticks, but no passcode input screen comes up, and the iPad stays in guided access.

- Forced reboots don't work, the iPad just unlocks it self (no lock code) and goes back to the app that I am stuck in, which is Google Chrome.

- Lost Mode is not an option, location services are off.

- When I plug it into my computer, iTunes says that it is locked with a passcode, so I can't back it up.

There seems like no possible way to get out.

Help!?

I am in the same boat. I setup guided access with the passcode lock and have since removed it. I stopped guided access and resumed it while using FaceTime. When I force reboots it just loads FaceTime into guided access and I'm back in the loop.

If you are prepare to wipe your iPad.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE

    1. Hold Sleep/Wake button down and slide to turn off iPad

    2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug.

    5. Release Home button.

    ON COMPUTER

    6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.

    7. Select "Restore iPad"...

    Thanks! That did the trick.

Also, it should probably be noted that you should not restore from backup. Took me right back into guided access mode, but another restore and I had to setup this as new.

    Thank you for your feedback

Your backup contain the problem for Guided Access; that's why you cannot use it.

I had this problem tonight, and I figured out how to solve it without wiping my iPad:

    1. Plug the iPad into your computer. (Leave your iPad powered on.)

    2. Open iTunes and select your iPad

    3. Delete the app that you were stuck in. (For me it was Skype.)

    4. Sync.

When I deleted Skype, it dropped me back to the home screen (launchpad), and when I triple-clicked the home button, I got the expected password screen for disengaging Guided Access.

If for some reason you do have to wipe your iPad, I strongly recommend backing it up to iTunes first (which might maintain some of your saved games etc if you're lucky, when you move the app back onto your iPad), and backing up all your photos to iPhoto, if you haven't already. You can do all this from your computer while it's trapped in Guided Access mode.

Well, the first thing to do is to back up your iPad. That way many of the apps will get stored in their current state on your computer, and theoretically may copy back onto your iPad with the same data.

Before you wipe the iPad, I'd recommend going to the Apple Store if there's one in your area, and seeing if maybe someone at the genius bar can help you. But back up your iPad before you go.

Note: When you back up your iPad, make sure you check the box that says "encrypt backup" and make a password that you can remember. That way the backup keeps all your passwords and settings. This way, even if you wipe it, and you can't move all your apps back on and keep their data, you can still restore to that backup and at least get back to the point you're at now.

I managed to get out of it when I let the ipad run out of battery and turn itself off.  After restart by plugging in the Ipad the app that I was in did not restart, I was able to go into settings and disable 'Guided Access'.

Thank you very much,   I followed your instructions and my IPAD is now unlocked.  What a relief.
