Mar 23, 2014 5:12 AM in response to Kappyby baycwp,Thanks for the response but my problem is that I have only one slider - the display slider. I don't have a slider to put the computer to sleep. Is this normal in Mavericks?

Mar 23, 2014 8:20 AM in response to Csound1by baycwp,Is that for a Macbook or an iMac? If that's for an iMac, it's very strange because I do not have the computer slider. I only have one slider that says "turn display off after.." Is there some way to get back the computer slider?

Mar 23, 2014 9:11 AM in response to baycwpby Kappy,Then there is a defect in your system installation. Reinstall Mavericks.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Mar 23, 2014 9:57 AM in response to Kappyby baycwp,I'd like to avoid reinstalling Mavericks, particulary since it's a new iMac which came with Mavericks installed. I didn't do the installation.
My energy saver is different from yours in more than just the missing computer slider. Mine also has the options to "prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" and "enable power nap" I've tried to post a picture but when I try to attach an image of it that I created using Grab, it says that the content of this type of image is not allowed. What file type would I be able to use to attach an image? (Sorry, to ask for help on a different topic.)

Mar 23, 2014 10:07 AM in response to baycwpby Kappy,Energy Saver has those same options for every new laptop.
If the computer is new, then it's in warranty. Take it back and let Apple sort things out for you.

Mar 23, 2014 10:52 AM in response to baycwpby baycwp,FYI - For those with a question similar to my initial question - After some more digging, it appears that this is actually a feature, not a bug. I found the exact same energy saver options in an apple support document about the power nap feature - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394 It appears my computer is fine, the energy saver features are just different than what I am used to.
