Q: opening apps on an old iMac

This is probably a silly ? but I want to open iBooks on my iMac, can open it on my other devices but not my computer. Any ideas?

    You can only open iBooks for Mac, which comes with more recent versions of OS X, on a Mac. iBooks for iOS; iPhones, iPads and iPods Touch does not run on a Mac, it can only be stored in the iTunes content libraries on a Mac.
