Q: Connecting Macs to Samsung Smart TV #UN55F7100AFXZA for Audio and Video form the TV

omg i wish there was a dislike button...why the heck would anyone want a hdmi cable running from the tv to the laptop??? why? when there is wireless available???

this method tethers the laptop or any pc to the tv....so much for macs and smart tvs being the go....

why cant the techies get a brain in this day and age as there are many many people out there who want this solved!! dare i say thousands? whats the good of technology if it cant be used to its full advantage??

The original poster did not specify that he wanted a wireless connection and a connection via HDMI cable is technically the easiest.

But there is in fact possibilities to do it wireless, since the techies got a brain in this day and age...

You either buy an Apple TV and connect it to the Samsung TV (most convenient option): http://store.apple.com/us/ipod/ipod-accessories/apple-tv

Or you do it with a service like Plex: https://plex.tv/

P.S. @Diamantina: A lot more respect for the people around you, the techies, as you so eloquently put it, would serve you well. Without them you would not have a computer to write this on, no internet to surf on everyday, no iPod to listen to and no iPhone, or any phone for that matter. Why not do something amazing like that rather than leaving disrespectful comments on a forum...

I ALREADY HAVE PLEX, and I do already have apple tv...it just doesnt do what I need it to do, and as I said before i dont want cables running around.....I have already had what I wanted on other tvs of lesser quality so take your all knowing sarcastic unhelpful reply elsewhere... my point is why have updated more expensive techology and not be able to use it to its full extent...thanks anyhows for stuff I already knew..hence my frustration at not having what Ive had before...Ive already researche what I need on other forums and solve its without success and I dont wish to take a step back and pay for poor quality when Ive had better quality before on a smaller budget tv...so before you comment and be condescending to me..get all the facts!

Because sometimes wireless is the worst solution. Bandwidth issues if other roommates or family members share the same networks for heavy network transfers, interference issues especially if you live in a crowded apartment neighborhood with literally hundreds of wireless networks on the same block.

I have a nice wireless network but my home entertainment center goes through a gigabit switch that is wired to my router. I never have any wireless problems because I use a wire.

Also, AirPlay requires $99 AppleTV, but HDMI only requires a $5 cable and has no program restrictions.

As usual, no helpful information here.  EVERYONE wants a simple WIFI connection from their laptop to their TV.  Not cords, we don't need to specify, it's not 1902.  We don't care about all your BS talk about anything else other than this connection.  Either post how to do it or don't post at all or shut the heck up!  Diamantina had it right exactly.

I went as far as to find the product manual for your TV on Google. To mirror something live on your TV, the manual only lists one option using a technology called "AllShareCast." This is a Samsung feature provided (as far as I know) only to Samsung mobile phones like the Samsung Galaxy, so it can't be used with a Mac.

There are various ways to send wireless video through your TV, some already mentioned above, but to my knowledge most have to do with playing back recorded content, or files. If your requirements are specifically the following:

• live playback of whatever is on the screen of a Mac laptop
• do it wirelessly

It does not look like the TV itself provides any way to do this other than Samsung-only AllShareCast, so you probably have no choice but to attach something to the TV, your most likely options are probably to plug an Apple TV or the Google Chromecast into the back of your TV and send laptop video to them over wifi. The Apple TV will probably be the most versatile solution using AirPlay Mirroring. If what I know of Google Chromecast is correct, it is much cheaper than Apple TV but more limited because you can only mirror to the TV using either specifically Chromecast-enabled apps or from a tab in the Google Chrome web browser.

If this doesn't sound as easy as you thought, well, this is not a mature area so the fight to create the dominant wireless-to-TV standard is still being fought between Apple, Samsung, Google, Microsoft, etc, who all want to lock out the others, and it is more complicated than it will probably be 5 years from now. That's just the way it is today.

And it's why a lot of us just say, just gimme the $5 cable so I can just plug straight into the TV and be up and running and happy in less than 1 minute...

Glad it helped. I hope in the future there is a wireless device-to-TV industry open standard that is as simple as our cheap and easy wired standards (USB, HDMI, DisplayPort) when these vendor standards wars are more resolved. It is too bad we are not there yet.

You can play video (music or photos) wirelessy from your Mac (or PC) to your Smart TV. Its easy to do but to be honest you may as well put your videos onto a memory stick and then put that into the TV. Then you only need the remote of the TV.

Any way if you do want to do it nethertheless here is what you need to do:

• Download Vuze (its free and quick to install)

• Open Vuze

• TV will show up in 'Device Playback' (probably the model number)

• Drag movie files onto your TV icon, it will convert for playback and store them in the library - they say 'ready' when....ready.

• Now go to your Smart TV and click Source

• Scroll down to' Network - Vuze on mac'

• Click on it and navigate to the content you want to play.

MRRRPP! Wrong. There is a SDK available at http://developer.samsung.com/allshare-framework

As you can imagine, this is a SDK for android, since Samsung doesnt use ios. But honestly, programmers could port it or use the published API's in other ways. But i dont think Apple will do this themselve, just because it would support Samsung. So it's up to open source.. which is definetly not one of Apple's strongest arms.

Thanks for adding this information. It's why I said "...as far as I know..."  But of course, because the SDK is useless until it can be used with Macs, the original answer still stands: It can't be used with a Mac.

Apple still uses a lot of Samsung components, so they aren't automatically opposed to them in all areas. And Apple is definitely very involved in open source, having also given back many projects to open source, and with OS X itself based on open source BSD Unix.

But all that is an aside to the fact that using this marginal Samsung API is not going to be very high on Apple's priority list, so it's basically not an option for this thread. The Vuze option above looks interesting.
