Mar 30, 2014 7:19 PM in response to esabatineby a brody,All Intel Apple notebooks have airport cards. Only the Mac Pro desktop had it optional once the Intel lineup came to being. Some 2006 Airport cards only supported 802.11g. And some could be upgraded to 802.11n if you had a Core2Duo model Mac with a simple firmware patch. Outside of that, if you have no airport card detectable, it either means:
1. It is loose, or the antenna was not wired correctly in the last repair.
2. It is connecting to a non-Apple router without a proper firmware update to read the signal from that operating system.
3. It is connecting via a different encryption standard. Best to use WPA2 for all.
4. There are too many devices sharing the router, and it is the last one on.
5. Airplay issues came to being with Mac OS X 10.9.2:

6. The PRAM battery/capacitor is getting old. When it gets over 4 years old, it often needs replacing by an authorized service center. This is the same as the CMOS battery.
