It sounds like your phone is unresponsive with the Apple logo and a progress bar beneath it. I recommend starting by resetting your phone:
How to reset
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still unable to boot your phone to the Home Screen, I would next back up your phone to iTunes with this article:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
